No flights in our out if the UK til April

Getting a bit concerned about what happens when we get into March if the situation is still the same and there could be potentially thousands of non-resident second home owners , like me, trying to get back to the UK before their 90 days are up.

I wonder if the governments will thrash something out along the lines of an extra three months are allowed if you cannot get out of Spain in time.  They can't (surely!) fine all of us for over staying when it is not our fault that we cannot get a flight.  Interesting times ahead.  I for one would jump at the chance of a flight home any time during Feb or Mar as I am ready to go back now.

I am sure that you are right.

If there is no way of getting back the governments will have to have a plan in place I am sure. Although I have not seen anything as yet?

It would be beyond anyone’s personal control,

So they would have to do something I am sure. The crystal ball presumptions are difficult, as no one really knows how the Covid

situation will either improve or deteriorate further.

It is a dilemma that none of us thought we would be in.

Hi Michael,My flight to Newcastle on the 30th January has NOT yet been cancelled. Is being advertised for 9 euros yesterday!!.For my last cancellation to Glasgow I was informed on a Sunday by a nice man (Darren) who is a contact for Ryanair about 10 days before I was due to fly so I am ever hopeful that this will go ahead as I have had to take a rental after selling my home here.I need to get back, where I shall also have to take a self-catering rental for isolation, until I can complete on a new home. This is in Scotland but in desperation I took the only available flight destination that is nearest to there.A total nightmare for me as I am meantime homeless & I then have to be able to get into Scotland.Trains do go from Newcastle but who knows what will happen when I arrive with northern England being on travel restrictions & Scotland restricting entry..Have contacted the British Embassy ,as I believe I should be able to travel once there  due to my circumstances, but they just direct me to the website which I get updates from every week.I have been resident here for nearly 40 years, had previously had 2 British Consuls as clients in my business so not surprised at the response.Don't know northern England as well so at a bit of a loss.I feel a bit like someone from the "Great Escape".Easyjet have a flight advertised to Glasgow on 13Feb. but that Airline was 1 of my cancellations previously so don´t rely on that,it´s a lottery.Even tried going from Gibraltar but they have the same difficulty.KLM had a flight to London via Amsterdam but I could have been stuck in the Netherlands. And ferry companies have limited service if you try from Santander.

Good grief, can life get much more complicated??  I wish you the best of luck in your travels especially crossing the border over Hadrian's Wall!  I suppose with things changing day by day, or even by the hour, your trip home might be completely stress free though I do understand the worry over accommodation.  The sooner all this nonsense is over the better.

If the government really wanted to destroy the travel industry they are making a very good job of it.  I'm just surprised there hasn't been any serious civil disturbance yet.  Maybe that will come in time.  Maybe there will be some of that at the Spanish airports next month and March if returnees are prevented from boarding planes (that's if there are any on the tarmac of course).  I blame A Place in the Sun and such programmes.  They made it all look so easy for me and many others when buying here in recent years.  If only we had known what was in store - I, for one, would have definitely not gone ahead with it.

Anyway all we can do is wait and hope for the best.  I managed to get here at the end of October before the latest round of restrictions were imposed so I can't expect an easy ride back....can I?

Absolutely agree with you about those Tv sites advertising. It all sounds wonderful but the reality can be so different. My family came here before Spain was in the EU but we were buying a business from a Spaniard. It was so hard even then as they were not in EU.Now boot is on the other foot.Anyone who thinks it will be easy despite being outside the club had better think again.I live in a very multi culture town,I know what they think of us British despite what you may read in the British press.I have finally thrown in the towel.I am so upset that our future generations will not have the opportunities to settle in european countries as we did.We had a very good business previously on the south coast of England. If I wasn´t returning for family reasons there is no why I would leave here.

Yes indeed.

It is a consequence of Brexit and like you still think that it is a retrograde step.

It does not really matter what side people were

on it what their views were towards the vote.

Logic just dictates that it was not a good idea

Of leaving a club we had been in over 40 years.

The consequence long term is also a one way ticket!

I don’t think we would be allowed back in easily

and certainly not in the terms we left on.

Anyway, that decision is dead and buried now.

A lot of these travel problems are nothing to do

with Brexit at all but the Covid situation the world is

in currently. It will improve, but is going to take

time. Sadly the days of people coming to Spain

to work are probably over to a large extent,

but people will still be able to retire to Spain, but it’s going cost

more to do so and proof of income, money in the

bank and medical expenses with insurances.

it is all a concern where the future may take us?

Wish you all the best and hope you can get sorted out soon.
