Anybody else notice the increase in these little critters since the rain last week and the bites that go with them, seems much worse than July - early August.

A small two-winged fly that resembles a mosquito. Gnats include both biting and non biting forms, but they (unlike mosquitos) typically form large swarms, emerging from still or stagnant water left around..
Included among the invertebrates are moth flies, wood gnats , midges, punkies, mosquitoes, marsh beetles, and bee-like or wasp-like syrphid flies.
It´ll soon be winter!

I know what they are alright Villas, & very hard to see unless they settle in water so no wonder they’re called no-see-ums but I thought they had died down a bit and was thinking the rain agitated them a bit. I don’t mind the mosquito as I can see them and it’s a fair fight, it the sneaky little ones I hate 🙁🙁

Agree,
But the thought that an animal with just 10 brain cells could mess up your entire night is something quite different. Sorry. I was still talking about Gnats & mozzies.

Further to insect bites in ans around Torrevieja.
If someone has had a bite that has got infected what medication is available to treat the infected bite here in Torrevieja ?
Some time ago someone mentioned to me that there is a good cream available from most pharmacies to treat the bite - but cannot remember the name of the product ?
Would be grateful for any advice.

Mercadona sells a tall black coloured aerosol Insect spray can (has pics of various insects on the front)and I dilligently spray around my door/windows and cover the back of my ribbon curtain and I swear no insects invade my house - it has a rather strong smell but I just sit outside for 15mns until the smell abates - highly recommended! that'll get rid of your no-see-ams!
