Has anyone any experience in using electric showers as used in the UK? We have 2 bathrooms in our apartment which is at present supplied by an electric hot water heater fitted in the kitchen and we are wondering if 9 or 10 Kw electric showers can be used in Spain. Are they available and where would one buy them from?

It's really a case of making sure the electric cable supplying the 9 or 10 kw shower unit is capable of carrying the load current.

Thanks Jan, we have looked on websites but not actually seen electric showers for sale. Where would one buy electric showers like Mira for instance in / near Torrevieja?

Not sure where to buy the shower unit itself.

Just to add to my previous reply. In the UK for example a 10kw shower would be wired from the main supply, in 10 sq.mm twin & earth cable, with a 45amp circuit breaker and a double pole pull switch located near the shower unit.

A 10 kwatt shower on full would draw around 40amps from your incoming supply, so you need to bear this in mind.

Generally in Spain, electricity contracts deliver a set amount of supply current. The amount of current is what the customer has requested and should be written in the contract. The amount of supply current can be upgraded at customer request  - to the Electricity company.

If a customer switches on too many appliances within their dwelling which is over and above the contracted amount, then your supply will trip off until the load in the dwelling is brought down to within the contracted limit.

Hope this makes some sense.

It is very unlikely that you have enough power supply for a 9kw shower.

Supplies are, typically, 3.4kw, 5.5kw or 7.4kw.

Check for the "potencia" on your electricity statement.

That’s good to know thanks Kelvin.
