I would also like to reassure you having just bought a holiday home in Cabo Roig about 10 mins drive from Torrevieja . I am out here on my own currently (been here 5 weeks) and like the other posters say, I feel safer here than in UK. The area has a lovely feel to it and it is not intimidating at all . The looky looky men I have come across are very polite and do not hassle you . They seem to live comfortably along side the indigenous population and holiday makers in Cabo Roig at least . It is fine . I've not seen any hint of trouble at closing time (unlike in the UK) either . It's an area for families and people to enjoy . I love it here .
Hi Jenny, thank you so much for your reply and reassurance, I am so pleased I asked the question on here, because have had so many lovely and positive replies back, and now have no worries at all about our move to the Torrevieja area.
The UK is becoming quite dangerous now, in various places, so it will be lovely to feel so much safer :-)

...s are now landing in, or aiming at, and have just seen in the news re Torrevieja that quite a lot of disturbance is being caused by what is described as 'Mafia Senegalese', ie violence, throwing things at the Spanish police, who actually drove away and didn't do a lot, aggression....etc., This is quite sad, because it looked very scary, and close to the tourist cafes etc., The thing is, a lot of Brits (especially pensioners) are now looking to move out of the UK (because of how things are changing so fast here) to calmer quieter safer countries, of which we all thought Spain is one of them. So that bodes very well for property sales in Spain because more Brits will be aiming that way asap I would think. So I wonder if any of you lucky people who are already living in such a lovely area, could let me know how the picture really is, as it looks a bit worrying from here. Sorry again if this is a bit of a tricky subject.

I think I know the report you are referring to where chairs are being thrown at the police and they then drive away?
If it is that one you are referring to which I believe was on Facebook that apparently was in 2013.
If you input the heading it will come up with the same report for 2013 and I think someone has just reposted it.
I'm not aware of that happening recently and think it would have been mentioned on the Torrevieja forum.

SMG....thanks for your reply, I should have checked the date! Several people had shared that particular event on facebook, so I think we were all wondering if that was happening now. I will check these things out properly in future :-)

I had to read through a few posts to see that. Very misleading.
Having said that I feel pretty safe in Torrevieja even walking at night. I'm in the centre of town

One thing I may add.... given all of the countries I have visited... when we go to our place in Torrevieja there is one thing assured, the street sellers are not pushy and the first time you say no to them they just move on...
Some places they are rude, arrogant and very pushy
Torrevieja is our fav and safest place to go out any time day or night and it’s all fine 👏

...ink at the last count 83 different nationalities living side by side with not a lot of problems, come live and enjoy it will be good.
Generally safe but I have been beaten up and robbed 3 times and people say it could happen anywhere (correct) .but it hasn't happened anywhere else and as somebody else pointed full now of drunken B rits.don't trust anyone.
