Hello.

We are planning to move over from Ireland in 2023. My partner is a fully qualified special needs teaching assistant. Might there be employment opportunities around the Torrevieja area? At the moment no Spanish spoken (understandably that doesn't help). Just putting feelers out .. any advice would be most welcome.

Thanks

Ian

To find a job as englisch  speaking teaching assistant in Spain is possibly as difficult as find the same job for spanish speaking person in Ireland. You may be more successful getting a bar or a kitchen job.

Don't know if there are any international schools in that area, but if there are,  contact them once you move. But, in my experience, they'll only engage a special needs worker for a specific child, and the parents will cover the costs. And the worker's wage will be as low as they can make it. Sorry.......

Difficult maybe but not impossible. In any case restricted to private "academias" and there are plenty around. When contacting forget about social benefits, working contract, and the like. However, insist in weekly payment. Average pay is +/- 11,- per hour. Mnay or most "academias" are one-day-flies and owner often have no idea about what they are dealing with - my own experience.
