Hi we just got back to el Pinet and our electric has been off, and we’ve got stinking freezer full off rotten food and horrendous smell in apartment! ☹️☹️☹️

So if you plan to leave your freezer on with food in it. whilst you are away from Spain, here’s a little tip that a seasoned visitor  gave me.

On the ice tray in your freezer, place a 2 or 5 Euro piece on one ice cube. If next time you return the coin has dropped to the bottom of your ice cube, but is still encased in ice, at some stage the freezer has been off, probably due to an electrical outage, but the power has resumed before you returned hence the coin being iced over again  by the ice cube.
It’s not great news but at least you know your food In the freezer  has most likely defrosted and re-frozen and may not be safe to consume.

That's what has happened to us now 3 times!!! and insurance wont cover damage, we now try to leave as little as possible in freezer if we know we are going to be away.  Ice Cube indicator is a really good idea.  Though would prefer if it didn't happen at all!!!!  Gillian

PS Back last Friday and all seems fine!!!!!! electric hasn't gone off though we now have a severe leaking flat roof

Hi Gillian, thank You, yes we definitely won't stock up before we go home again so as to save time when we're only back for a long weekend😣 seemed like a good idea at the time!🤔 am going to do the coin tip too! So sorry to hear of your leaky roof though, nothing is ever simple is it!😥 hope you get that sorted soon. Debbie
