That equates to 4.83 on the UK equivalent scale, which seems good to me 👍

As Stevec61 was exceptionally helpful to us today,I will pass his knowledge on to you.

Divide your Spanish reading by 18,how good and easy is that?

I researched a lot of sites, but not being the Brain of Britain,I couldn't fathom any of it out!!

Chuffed now,we know what we are doing at last!

No worries, I’m glad you’re able to put your mind at ease now! I am type 2 diabetic too, but not living in Spain, so this is new to myself too, but of great interest hence why your post led me to do some digging !

Good to see hubby getting some cycling done, very important to keep as fit and healthy as possible - you’ve certainly got the right climate over in Spain, not like the freezing UK at the moment ☹️
...

...

Wishing you & hubby all the best for the new year, stay safe and look after yourselves 👍

So if your husband loses a bit off weight you can get rid off type 2 , Spain is the ideal place to achieve this , what is his in English scale , mine was around 16  then I lost 4 stone which put it around 5 , put I've put 3 back on and now scale is at 5.7 a little high .

He is about a stone overweight, but in the summer it goes with all the extra exercise.

Plus we eat healthier all summer, tonight we have a chicken stew, which is stodgy!

Now we understand the Spanish readings with great info from Steve, his readings are generally good, around 6.

He is generally good, rations sweet stuff and alcohol, but doesn't beat himself up,if he has an extra glass of vino!

Stay safe.

You mustn’t fall into the trap in thinking that lower blood sugar levels mean diabetes has gone, my usual readings are 4 to 6 Max, can’t remember going above 6 for a few years, I exercise quite vigorously, doing 5 HIIT spin classes per week, but still classed as borderline type 2 due to Hba1c blood test reading!

Regular exercise and a healthy diet and subsequent weight loss will bring this reading down in due course, but please don’t be duped by thinking a low blood sugar level reading taken manually means the diabetes has been reversed!

We certainly don't think that Steve.

We take this so seriously,as our nephew sadly passed away 3 years ago, diabetes related,he was just 35 years old.Bless him

All you can do is be sensible, but still have a good quality of life, you only live once.

If you ask in the Pharmacy they can give you a conversion chart 😊

Your husbands readings should be and mean the same no matter what country you are in. 5.6 is a perfect reading but as you should know, anything between 4.0 and 7.0 is fine. Below 4.0 is going into a hypo and therefore you need to eat before taking insulin, after 7.0 means you are going into a hyper therefore going high, take your insulin immediately.

Hope this helps.

Jonathan

Thank you.

Yes,we know the readings are the same where ever you live, but the Spanish meter readings are so different.

In England his usual readings were around 5/6,here the readings are in the hundreds.

His diabetic nurse here found it difficult to explain to us,even though we know some Spanish medical terms?

We were kindly put right on here by Steve, and it was so easy, although difficult for us oldies to research, and understand.

To know now,we just divide his reading by 18 is great.

Thanks for the help.

They use a different measurement in Spain

90-130 before meals is good that's 5-7.2 UK reading

as I mentioned before nothing beats professional advise ask the pharmacist they are very skilled and knowledgeable and will be able to help you 😊

Yes,we should have asked a pharmacist, when we didn't understand his diabetic nurse.

We feel happy, and relieved with Steves help.

Easy,when you know how.
