My husband has type 2 diabetes.

Although I have been on Diabetes.uk I still can't seem to get answers?

Blood sugar levels are a bit of a mystery to us here in Spain?

We haven't seen his diabetic nurse for quite some time, due to the crisis.

Can anyone give us advice about the Spanish readings opposed to the English  readings please? Gracias.

Is your husband taking his own blood sugar level readings?

Yes,but we still think of the English levels.

If the reading is 6 is it 16 on the Spanish rating?

If you are consistently taking the readings in the English format then continue this way to monitor any changes, as you will know from your historical readings how the blood sugar levels usually behave. You have stated that you still think of the English levels, that is what I would stick with too

I have had a quick online search, and found the following info ref the Spanish equivalent means of measuring, which is in a different format

To convert from UK mmol/l to Spanish mg/dl just multiply the UK figure by 18 (so 7.5mmol/l = 135 in Spain).

To convert from mg/dl to mmol/l just divide the Spanish figure by 18

In your husbands case, a UK reading of 6 will equate to 108

I get it now?

His machine is a Spanish one.

Thanks for your kindness.

Happy New Year.

My husband has just returned from his daily cycle ride, and he wants me to thank you.

Even his diabetic nurse here couldn't explain the difference to us?

With  Covid,we haven't been able to see the nurse on a regular basis, and we were sure his readings were consistenty high, which was a worry.

We now know his readings have been good, which is a big weight of our minds.

So a big mucho Gracias from the hubby,

No worries, I’m glad you’re able to put your mind at ease now! I am type 2 diabetic too, but not living in Spain, so this is new to myself too, but of great interest hence why your post led me to do some digging !

Good to see hubby getting some cycling done, very important to keep as fit and healthy as possible - you’ve certainly got the right climate over in Spain, not like the freezing UK at the moment ☹️

Wishing you & hubby all the best for the new year, stay safe and look after yourselves 👍

Sorry to jump on this post.  I have a Spanish blood tester, my reading was 87 today.  Is that good?  I follow a very strict diet.

Yes,he swims,walks and cycles.

A year after we got here he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, but after 40 radiotherapy treatments, the prognosis is pleasing.

Excellent health service here, with no waiting lists for GP appointments,or hospital checks.

Best thing we did moving here, but for me,I miss the children.

Gracias for your help once again.Much appreciated.

It's nice to help people, and for once no trolls!!

That equates to 4.83 on the UK equivalent scale, which seems good to me 👍
