Health care with pre existing condition

My husband and I are considering buying a holiday home where we will spend at least three months of the year, looking to then relocate permanently in three to four years time.  I have chronic heart failure although I am well and my condition is stable and has been for many years.  What health cover would I need and would my condition potentially make a permanent move not viable?

Welcome to the forum.

For private health insurance with severe pre-existing conditions you would need specialist advice. There are a couple of companies advertising on this website ... a banner down the right hand column on my device (it might be in a different location on yours).

While you are visiting for 90 day slots, there are holiday insurance providers who can deal with pre-existing conditions.

But be prepared for high costs in either case.

If you were to gain Spanish Residency under the current arrangements, you could claim free Spanish NHS cover at age 66, without prejudice to pre-existing conditions (and funded from a UK S1), but this benefit looks set to disappear for applicants after 31/12/20.

Hi Rachel,

I'd recommend talking to Alfonso at Gran Alacant Insurance Services - he advertises on this forum and has many good reviews.  If you don't qualify for an S1 by the time you want to move permanently to Spain (without a Brexit deal, the scheme  won't be available to new applicants), you'll require private health insurance without exclusions for your residency/TIE application, so best to speak to an expert.

Kind regards,

Kim
