Whilst I am not in a position to comment on your personal unfortunate experience, it may also be difficult for medical personnel trying to advise and treat ‘ foreign’ patients, who have little or no command of the National language here. It is always advisable to take a translator if your language skills are not sufficiently comprehensive. Many current medics do have some command of English, and many of the younger ones, especially the equivalent of GPs, are reasonably fluent, but it should not necessarily be expected.
