My husband and I are retiring and looking to relocate in the Torrevieja area. We are in the process of applying for a visa and are just waiting to finalise everything.

My question is ...will we be allowed to travel to Spain and have our personal belongings shipped over, on a visa only, considering the current situation we are now in.

Thank you for any advice

Susan

Within 6 months following taking residence you may bring your belongings tax and duties exempted as long as they are used and not acquired within the last 2 years. This includes automobiles, boats, and airplanes. However, I'd reommend checking with your nearest Spanish Consulate the steps to take.

Thank you for your information. I’m learning new things daily.

I still need to find out if we can come to Spain on our visa. I know we need to get the NIE card from the police station when we arrive. Just unsure if they would let us in from the UK

Just make sure that you go to the correct police station, only the National Police deal with NIEs.

A couple of websites that may have answers to some of your questions are:

Citizens Advice Bureau Spain for bureaucratic items

N332 for anything to do with driving in Spain.   The site, and their Facebook page that gives updates re the rules and regulations in respect of the virus, is run in conjunction with officers of the Guardia Civil for English speaking people.

A further thought just in case you have not realised it as yet, the town of Alicante is in the Province (think county) of Alicante, the town of Valencia is in the Province of Valencia, and both provinces along with Castellon are in the Comunidad de Valencia.   I explained this just in case you did not know in which province your final destination belongs.

Our solicitor arranged our NIE and everything else when we bought our house. We are not residents but arrived and all we had to do was go and sign in the Notary. The water, electricity, bank accounts were all sorted on our behalf.
