Hello there,

We are a couple who will be visiting the Torrevieja area in May this year for about 10 days or so.

We are visiting to look at properties with a view to buying or maybe renting initially. Our intention being to settle out in Spain from September this year.

Can you tell us if there are any local social groups in this area which we could visit to ask advise. Or any individuals who would be willing to speak to us and give us advice on moving to Spain and anything that would help with the transition.

Yours gratefully

Bill and Karen

Hello

What passports you have (EU/UK) and how old you both are makes a huge difference to the replies you will get. To move to spian you will need a Visa and answers to the questions, will say what type you need(*retirement, work etc)

There is lots of info  re financial requirements, medical careetc etc available if you give us more info.

Cheers

Welcome to the forum.

Torrevieja is a huge municipality, it has many many different areas, so some insight into where you’re staying on this visit or where you are looking to buy a property  we can probably point you in the right direction to get some assistance. Lots of social groups are available it depends on your own interests and hobbies.

Most of the expat run bars run lots of groups and societies and you’ll always find someone willing to chat to you whilst you’re having a coffee (or something stronger).

Just beware that the population of Torrevieja increases quite dramatically in August as a lot of the Spanish have holiday homes in town. Torrevieja will be at least four times busier in August than what you see in May.  But the same can be said for most of the coastal areas in the region.

Will you have transport, are you limiting your search to Torrevieja or you also considering properties in the other municipalities in the area?

Do you speak Spanish?  If not you can start learning now as time is on your side prior to moving in September.

Hi Lynn

Thank you for your prompt response. Yes, the intention is to buy.

In May we will be staying in a flat in the center of Torrevieja. We have booked a hire car with the intention to drive about and see the local areas. I suppose we are looking for reputable estate agents to give advice and speaking to individuals like yourself on the local situations and pit falls that could trip us up.

We are in our 50s (plus), we do not  intend to work, at least not to start with.

We like to think we are young at heart, we like walking, dancing (a bad Cerocer) shopping etc. We would hope to join in with the local community once out there.

Hello,

We are living and working in Germany and have been here before Brexit. So I think we will come in under the EU rules. We are in contact with the German authorities at the moment. We are aware of the UK visa rules which we think we can meet if need be.

Thank you for pointing this out

Well done!  You certainly seem to be on the ball.

Moving to Spain in your 50’s is perfect as you are still fit and young. I can’t suggest any clubs or societies to join but I know that most areas have groups who play Potanca during the week, all nationalities and I’m told everyone is welcomed.  In order to meet people I’d recommend you get a dog or borrow one and get out walking. My friend tells me that she has made so many friends by chance conversations while out walking her beautiful dog. I see people chatting to other dog walkers constantly. We’ve met people by striking a conversation in restaurants. Nowadays, we all carry mobile ‘phones so very easy to exchange contact details.  The fact you live in Germany and probably speak the language is another plus. Lots of German people visit or live in the area.
Find yourselves the perfect location and before long, you’ll be settled and enjoying your lives. You’ll make friends too. It’s a lovely place to live and I personally always recommend the La Mata area as it’s perfect!!

Hi, I'm moving to Torrevieja this Saturday and don't know anybody there and would like to meet people. Could you please give the names of the pubs they run the social groups?

Thank you in advance Christine
