Just bought  a holiday  home  in  La  Florida.  Caxia bank advised us to  get  a house  alarm at cost of €50 a month  house  insurance  as squatters  are a high  risk . Is this  true?

Hi

We live in Guardamar, not a million miles away from ye!! Bought 18 months ago, never heard a suggestion of buying house alarm.

Squatting, break ins etc no more than any country as far as I can see. I stand to be corrected.

Good luck in your new home.

Weebobo, congratulations on the purchase of your property.

It does seem, from what you say, the Bank may be trying on a bit of Salesmanship .

You would be well advised to seek further quotes for your house Insurance .

On the quoted issue of Squatters ,if Squatters entered a property no house alarm on earth would persuade them to leave , it would quickly be smashed off the wall !

As LeckyLes says, if they want to get in, they will. I live here so it is different for me but if I had a holiday home I would prefer to spend my money on a legal keyholder who will check the property regularly and be on hand should anything happen and will have contacts with local tradesmen should the need arise.
There were so many posts from holiday home owners after the September floods worried that their properties may have been affected but a keyholder could have visited and either put your mind at rest or started the clean up and repairs.

Agreed, Nicola and her company cover that area, are traceable, and have a sound reputation .

Well worth consideration.

Hello,

Why dont you ask around the La Florida area re squatters....ask neighbours, shops/bar  owners etc & call in at  the local police station & ask there. As LeckyLes  said it could be the bank pushing a bit for an insurance sale , so get a few quotes, locally would be good then see if squatters are mentioned....mostly take time to make your decision, whatever you decide.

Enjoy your new home

Thanks everyone for your replies. Looks like  the  bank are pushing for a sale right  enough.  Also thanks for advice about keyholder. Will definitely  look into that. Can't  wait to get keys on 12th  sept and over there!!!

Squatters generally look for bank repossessions from Habitaclia or Solvia which have been put up for sale. It is far more difficult to kick squatters out when properties are not people's homes. Also the banks may not find out until someone is taken to view the property.
