I think you are wrong on the 90/180 day rule it does not apply to EU citizens.

EU citizens are free to travel in Europe providing they do not breach local laws, for most countries this starts with staying over 90 days without registering.

So as a Eu citizen I can leave the UK where I am also a citizen, go to France and on to Spain, not spending over 90 days in either then go to another Eu country and return to Spain  and back to Uk where I live.  Provided I do not spend more that 90 days at a time and do not spend 182 days in a calendar year in Spain (as it Spain we talk about on this board) I do not break any law, it is freedom of movement.

Hi Oadbyman,

If you read further up the thread, you'll see that Ashes meant to say "90 in 182", i.e. he was referring to the time periods for Spanish residency (90 days) and Spanish tax residency (182+ days), not the Schengen rule which is, as we know, the "90 in a rolling 180 days" rule.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Phil,  I live in NI and have had our central heating on and off all day long since Christmas. You can’t dry clothes outside so the tumble drier is on everyday too. We were in Spain for 6 weeks before Christmas and although cold in the evenings, it didn’t require the sort of constant heat we use at home. Clothes dried in a couple of hours up on the solarium and I have an internal clothesline in the galley for my late evening wash (lower tariff). Once you’ve settled into your home and have it sorted for the colder times, you’ll be snug as a bug in a rug. Put rugs onto your floors. Use your reverse air con to warm your sitting room and bedroom. Always put the bathroom heater on before going into use it. Winter months require wool sweaters. There’s no heat in cotton so don’t even bother to put them on!  A good electric blanket is advisable. Buy a dual controlled one if sharing your bed. My husband always switches his off before getting in while I would murder him if he turned mine off!  Be organised. I roll up all my floor rugs after winter and store them eg behind the couch. A big oil filled heater is marvellous on a very cold night but not necessary all the time. I don’t know what you can do if you have stairs coming into the living room. I’d probably put an air on unit on the downstairs/upstairs  wall and keep it running too.

There is no way that you will spend money on heating the way we do at home. Personally speaking, I think it’s far cheaper to live in Spain. Eating out, a glass of wine, A coffee, everything is so much more affordable. You don’t even need to wear great clothes if you don’t want to, anything goes but please bring woollens with you and a couple of good thermal vests.

I badly miss being out in Spain now. I don’t enjoy cold, damp winters but that’s what we get here.

Make sure you get your television sorted out immediately. We subscribe to Spanish Netflix at €7.99 per month. We use Avatel for our WiFi and bring our skybox with us as my husband loves his sports.  Make your place home from home that’s what we have done as we like our little luxuries. Buy decent pillows and a good bed too. As I get older the more I realise that I deserve the best we can afford and I’m not going to put up with discomfort....ever

All the best and enjoy your future life in Spain. Cheers

Hi Phil, Don’t rely on people from the U.K. selling up fir a bad price, I can’t see that happening.

You plan to drive over in your van with your dog, perfect company. Consider buying a single storey house. Apartments aren’t ideal for dogs and your dog will need to go out for a wee so having your own outside space would work better for you. We see lots of dog walking people out from early on until late snd most make their way to the scrubland area where the dog can have a good run about and relieve itself.  Dogs are forbidden on most beaches so look for a property with a park or scrubland nearby. Summertime is dreadfully hot and the pavements can be too hot for dogs so you will need to go out very early in the morning and later at night.  We are on the north side of Torrevieja and well away from the busy N332. Check out the areas from Torrevieja to La mata. We have beautiful coastal walks which you and your dog would love as you are well away from the busy traffic. If you enjoy sitting in the sun, make sure the property you buy is facing the right direction snd has ample outdoor sitting area as well as street parking or private parking. There are several 2 storey homes on urbanisations near us, not enormous but have 2 bedrooms. The downstairs look to have great garden space and a store room. Upstairs has a balcony and a piece of ground floor to access it through with a clothes line and store . We had a Swedish friend living opposite us in one and she had 3 dogs. Many’s a good nights fun we had but sadly she has returned to live in Sweden now and her nephew has inherited it. Should add that there’s a lovely pool area too.

I would avoid an apartment block if I were you. You must be very excited with your plans and April will be here before you know it. Good luck Phil. If you need any info. you only have to ask.

 Hi

Thanks  for  your  valid   information   and  some  has  been written down as  what  to  look  for  and  what  to except, when  we  get  permission  to  travel  and  April  is way off  the  mark,  Mr  O,Leary/Ryanair  said  on  Irish  radio  2  weeks ago  that  Easter  is  non event, my  guess  later 2021, as  Ireland  now in Lockdown till  May 1,  I  work   with  a  chap  who  has  apartment  out  in  Torrevieja,  but  not  one  to give  much  away,  but  he  has  not  been out  since  late  2019,  He  own a car  out  there  that  is  in Ailcante  airport  long term cark  park  at  300 euro  a year,  plus  he  got  all  his  standing  orders, on  electric and  water  and  insurance,  but  he  is  not  a happy   camper,   as  he  got  all  those  bills  to  pay  and  nothing  to  show  for  it,  and  he  is  one  of Thousands  who  like  out  of  Spain  looking  at glut  of property  on the  market,  and  amount  of  phone  calls  from Estate  Agents  in Spain  calling  me,  0034  prefix

I   was  very  apprehensive   about  buying  an  Apartment,  1   sound proofing,  as  I  would  be  living  out there  and  people  above  and   below  could  be  Holiday  maker  so  noisy  an  issues,  and  they  look  very  small  online,  they  are  prefect  for  Holiday  vacation,  but  living   in  one   all  year  round,  not  my  cup  of tea,

What  price  bracket  are  those  house  you  mention  in  your  message

Again Thanks  for   your  information,   Stay  Safe
