Hello NeillyDunn. 1,800 euros is cheap. If the policy offered to you is decent (READ INTO THE POLICY/COVER/WORDING) I would accept it. I pay double the figure you have mentioned. There are several on this site that also pay the monies I do to the same company I use. Many people have taken a far cheaper (less than the figure you have stated) route to gain Residency however what does the Health Insurance really cover and would it pay out without quibble if "God Forbid" it was needed. I have lived in Spain some 15 years, used a Spanish Company called DKV. A policy with no co-payments which you I would think would have to have printed on your health document. My cover is Premium. DKV have stood by me 110% if and when ever needed. If you enter into a years contract with which ever Health Company you chose to use then this would be accepted for your Residency without "stumping up" the yearly fee in one clump. The policy cannot be cancelled so don't think once you have the Residency you would cancel the Health cover, you would be sued. I wish you well for the future. R.

Look at Salus. We’ve found them quite reasonable

My partner and I are with DKV Seguros and paid 3200€ for our renewal policy for this year. I do have access to the Spanish healthcare system via the S1 route and my partner contributes to the Convenio Especial but we keep the private insurance as a safety net.
Just remember any health insurance policy must cover all eventualities and with no co-payments.
Best wishes

Try ASSSA. I think the price you mentioned is a little steep for a healthy 62 year old. I would expect something more like 1200-1300€.

Hi Neilly,
My husband and I are with ASSSA. We pay €1,870 per annum (for both of us, not each), aged 63 and 66 respectively with no pre-existing conditions and no co-payments.
ASSSA bands the cost of their cover by age ranges, and premiums only increase based on any increase in the cost of medical and technological advances, not age. We've had our cover since we were 55 and 58 (in the 55 to 59 band), so it would cost more if we were buying it for the first time now (age bands 60 to 64 and 65 to 69 respectively), but definitely worth obtaining a quote for comparison.
As you say this is for your visa/TIE renewal, I assume you already have a private GP local to Torrevieja, so it's worth checking that, whichever insurer you may decide to switch to, the GP you use works with them - unless, if it proves necessary, you're happy to change GP as well. For example, my private GP works with both ASSSA and Salus, and I've had treatment with a dermatologist in Guardamar del Segura without any issues. However, my neighbour, who is with Salus (on a Non Lucrative Visa, so also top level cover) has to travel to a dermatologist in Elche, because her GP in San Fulgencio and the dermatologist in Guardamar don't work with Salus.
You may already be aware that whilst you may cancel your annual policy at any time, you have to pay for it for the full duration of the annual contract anyway, as it's a condition of your visa renewals that you have continuous health cover.
Kind regards,
Kim

I paid €1,100 with ASSSA via Jennifer Cunningham (insurance broker - they advertise on this site) in late 2022. I was 62 with no pre-existing conditions. ASSSA provided a certificate confirming that the policy complied with residency conditions. So I'd say €1,800 is very steep. Shop around.
