Latest "hurdle".  Now I've got Residencia I want to exchange my UK Driving licence to a Spanish one and before 29 March.

Had anyone taken the 8 point medical test recently and if so, was the hearing test done on each ear individually or both ears at the same time?   Despite my everyday hearing being fine, I may well fail on one ear of its done individually.

Thanks, Janet

My wife and I did the tests last week.

They took our blood pressures. No hearing tests. Minimal eyesight tests. They asked if we slept OK and asked what medications we took.

That was it.

We are 58/61 years old.

Crumbs!  Thanks for the reply by the way.  Where was that done and did you use a service to get the licences changed over?

I'm so reluctant to buy an aid as I don't really need one, but know my "bad" ear probably would fail if tested individually.

To make matters worse, if you wear one at the test, your licence is marked up and you must wear it all the time whilst driving!!

Thanks in anticipation and to other replies,

Janet

Hello Janet, I have reduced hearing in one ear and had to take a hearing test as part of changing my licence over to a Spanish one last year. I have a basic hearing aid which is uncomfortable and problematic (especially around screaming kids) and I don´t wear it. Sense would say that they are looking to ensure you can hear the usual hazards when driving. Once I realise I am reaching the point where I can´t hear them ( I have perfect hearing in the other), I will buy a more expensive aid if I intend to keep driving at that stage. At the test I was told I had passed with flying colours.

Thanks, Janet

You only need the Medical report if you are renewing your Licence, if as you say you are exchanging it then you do not need the Medical.

This is the clinic that we used.

They gave us medical certificates that we used for our driving licences.

It sounds as though Ray uses the same medical test centre that we do, except that we go to Callosa. Each test we've done has been as ray says, a pair of headphones with the sounds in both ears.

Thanks to everyone for their replies.

It certainly seems the hearing test is done using both ears at the same time which is quite a relief.
