Id like to set my direct debit it now, for my IBI which will be payable by me for the first time from next year (so no bill yet to find the CSV? reference number). Ive asked whether this is possible on the SUMA online chat, but didnt get very far, other than to go into a SUMA office .. which is not the electronic solution i was hoping for! :-).  Perhaps that is the only way, but im hoping someone might know different.

Fingers crossed!
Louise

You might as well uncross your fingers, Louise, they didn't work!

I can't envisage any way in which you could set it up online in advance just now. Even calling the helpline would require you to provide the CSV number.

I also doubt that visiting a SUMA office would help. You may own the property now, but if you have a nice lottery win and swap it for a bigger one, then you won't be the owner on January 1st, and I think SUMA would be unlikely to entertain you before that date.

However, if you visit them next year then you might be able to do it.

And if you get yourself an electronic certificate by then, you might be able to do it online. An electronic certificate bears your NIE number, which should collate with that number on the SUMA database, so if you get into your data then you could do it online after all.

Darn it!  Im going to have to stop living in this state of perpetual hope :-)

Is the electronic certificate, that you mention Jim, 'Cl@ve'?  i tried to find the page to start the registration process, but all i could find was explanations about how it works!  Although by then, I must admit, Id almost lost the will to live :-)

Hi Louise,

You should receive your bill (in Spain) in late July/early August and it will be payable by around 6th October.  Once you have it, you can log on to www.suma.es and pay it with your debit card.  If you set up a direct debit, SUMA will take the payment in early September.

Kind regards

Kim

An electronic certificate is a lot easier to use than Cl@ve, but you need to be in Spain to get one:

Ahh ok. Thank you. I'll look into when I'm over in a couple of weeks. Your guidance has been hugely appreciated. Thanks again Jim.

Hello Louise

We had a similar question to yours.
The Suma office directed us to our ayuntamiento.  There we paid our first IBI which was overdue.  No police arrived to take us away, 😄   But there was a fine/interest added.

While there, we set up future payments by direct debit.   Enjoy your new home.

Best wishes

Maria
