Hello everyone, could some one give me some advice, i have had to relocate to UK, because of illness, been in Spain for 22 years and sold my propety which exchanged mid january. Paid eveything up to date, but my estate agent is saying i might have to pay suma again, is this right. Bank account is closed, Aroca  account closed as well. Could anyone advise please.

Depends on when you sold. The person owning the property on the 1st January is responsible for all IBI payments for the entire year.

Even if you sold in Jan 2024 you would have to pay for the entire year although the solicitors normally make an agreement with the buyers to pay the remainer.

Hi it is the person who owns the property on 1st January is liable for the suma for 2024. I would have assumed your solicitor would have held back the funds for this. Maybe speak to the solicitor who dealt with the sale., Hopethathelps, but assume that isn't the answer you were looking for.j

Non res tax is not a SUMA tax, it is the regional authority tax, in our case Valencia Region.

The non res tax is paid a year in arrears. At the end of 2024 you would pay for the year 2023 so he's probably right. Whether they'll chase you for it is another matter.

WELL WELL, You see again another post which does not make sense. I have been in Spain for 22 years and had to relocate back to the UK for health reasons when in fact Spain is "Far ahead of the world in treatment"? If you have been in Spain for that long and paid taxes to Spain which I have done for around 17 years regardless of Brexit then you would automatically qualify for health cover provided you have paperwork which supports your statement made living in Spain for that period of time. Pay what you owe to the Spanish Government, count your blessings you have got away with living in Spain as cheaply as you have. I sincerely hope you have informed the United Kingdom Treasury of your return,  the transfer of monies from the sale of your property. I hope you are taxed accordingly. R.

Ahh.... What you, hopefully, mean is that you've had a holiday home in Spain for the last 22 years and have been paying your NON-resident tax during that time.

I do hope that I have this right because no one in their right mind would move back to the UK for health treatment!

Your post is quite offensive. Leaving aside the healthcare question, I think it's quire reasonable someone might relocate back to the UK as a result of illness to be close to family support networks etc.

Rather than posting offensive nonsense, why not try to be helpful and supportive?

George55. I have now got back out of bed to explain to you. In Laymans terms. Many people on this site do not read the words posted then reply with a "cocked" rude reply as you have AGAIN replied to myself. Brian62 stated in 22 years of living in Spain he has just sold his property, due to health reasons, and  has had to RELOCATE TO THE UK. NOW George55 do you know what the word RELOCATE MEANS? Brian62 is a liar full stop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Peterpan posted a get out clause for Brian62 saying"this is your holiday home is it not" Brian62 then picked up on Peterpan's wording of the get out clause and replied this evening and said yes a holiday home, I will leave it at that. TO RELOCATE IS TO UPSTICKS AND MOVE FULL STOP< NOT A HOLIDAY HOME BUT ANOTHER DEFRAUDING THE UK OUT OF MONIES> simple as that. Goodnight George 55. My Regards. R.
