Thanks Keith. That’s good to know. ☺️

Just adding to what others have said. There is a 50 mtr swimming pool at the sports centre in Torrevieja, all laned off.Very clean and has a cafe.

El Fondo/Hondo is the protected wading bird park about 25 mins from la Mata. Lots of flamingos, glossy Ibis, pratinoles and lots of other birds. The main entrance to the park is just past  San Felip Neri, a small village just off the A7 autopista.

You can cycle around the la Mata salt lake, but need a hybrid bike.

I used to swim with another lady, Diana, about ten years ago and we practised for long distance swims they have in Spain, at the naufracas, shipwreck, beach on the southside of Torrevieja. This beach is protected to some extent by the harbour wall.

Their are lots of walking groups, just Google walking groups Torrevieja.

Good luck and you are being sensible have a practise visit first.

Thank you! Appreciate you taking the time to share those tips and the directions to get to different areas. We don’t have hybrid bikes, so that might be something we could look at hiring and now thinking we probably wouldn’t use our own as much as we do here, so hiring for a few days here and there might be a better option this time around. I’ve been in contact with the Sports Centre and they’ve been very helpful and I think we can make good use of that, the rates are amazing value. ☺️
