Hi Gemily,

I am sorry to hear of the trouble you are having with your Electrics.

The reason for the circuit breaker tripping could originate from a number of possible situations.

It is worth noting that in Spain, it is common for various wall sockets and equipment such as aircon to be wited into the lighting circuit.

This you may not be aware of as in The UK it would not comply with the Wiring Regulations, but in Spain ?

One thing I could suggest if you have not yet rectified the problem, is to turn off ALL the light switches at your property including any exterior lighting or switches to other exterior Electrical equipment . In addition to this, unplug All the plugs from your wall sockets .

Try then, to reset your lighting trip switch. If you are able to reset it then one by one, replace the plugs back into their respective sockets and then begin switching back on, each light switch and any other previously disconnected  equipment. The circuit breaker should trip when you reinstate the faulty part of the circuit.

If you have success here, then leave the faulty part left off and it will allow you to use the rest of the electrics whilst you can arrange a visit from an Electrician in order for the fault to be rectified.

If you are not successful in tracking down the fault in the way I have described then you will indeed require the services of an Electrician in order to have your Electrics tested in more detail

I’m talking about the circuit breaker switch for my lighting this won’t stay up when I put it up it just trips everything when I leave that alone i have power to half of my plug sockets but not my lights, and no I haven’t bought anything new and I’ve done the testing of my light switches etc, maybe I’m missing something so I need an electrician and I thank you for you input.

It sounds strange, but there could be a live to neutral short somewhere in the wiring, especially if the ELCB/RCD isn't tripping. It could also be that the circuit breaker itself is faulty. That's happened to me on two occasions here in Spain.

Just to let you know I contacted a spanish electrician from the link one of you kind people gave me he was at my place within the hour and I now have lights.

The problem was a wire shorting in the outlets not the plugs dont know what you call them but them camouflaged in the wall.

May I take this opportunity to thank everyone for their input and help solving the problem.
