Evidence of NIE

I have an NIF (tax number) I received more than 20 years ago. I know it's the same as the NIF number issued when purchasing a property years ago.  I can't remember if I was given a NIE certificate / card at any stage  - I must have been but have misplaced / lost it. Anyway, trying desperately to get online access to Curenergia account but they want evidence of the NIE / NIF rather than just the actual number itself. Anyone know where I could get evidence of NIF or more likely the NIE - is there a card or paper document or certificate and if so, where might I get a copy / reissue?

Can't remember where I got it, but somewhere in Torrevieja - it's such a long time ago. Would any one have a best guess where it might have been issued in Torrevieja 20 years ago, town hall perhaps?

Thx!

M

The only way to get a new certificate is to go through same procedure as when first applying . Will all have changed after 20 years but you have to get a denuncia from the Police to say you have lost it, apply for an appointment at the National Police station and pay the relevant tax (very little).

Other than that, if you can remember where you got your original from you can go there and ask if they have a copy.

Unusual to want to see the certificate, normally the number is sufficient and I've never shown my certificate since I got it.

Thanks for the reply. I'll explain I can't find it, and offer a Suma bill as evidence instead. Hopefully Curenergia will take that.

Do you know in Torrevieja where I would go for reissue for cert once I have the police report?

I believe the National Police Station has moved to La Zenia.

The difference between you and marcliff is that he is resident and you are not.

As a resident amongst other places 'evidence' of an NIE will be found on an old residencia or a TIE, a Spanish driving Licence, and (if held) a SIP card. Also if you have a Spanish bank account for sure it appear there somewhere too.

It seems to me to be both utter nonsense and a complete waste of everybody's time to have to make a denuncia in order to get a hard copy replacement, it's not as though a lost one is of any practical use whatsoever to anyone else!

Well, I don’t know about that, Darro. I had occasion to have a long conversation with a member of our local Guardia Civil brigade early last year, over a difficult matter, during which he informed me that anyone getting hold of my NIE was on the first step to stealing my identity, Given that businesses require it for official Facturas etc, this strikes me as fairly wide open, but who am I to disagree with the Guardia?
