Hi, any one suggest  good car hire companies with zero excess and no credit card deposit can people recommend, i was using doyouspain but they now.require 1200- 1500 euro deposit for bookings. I have tried Bravo as an agent and paid 178 euros for a weeks hire( super relax cover- no deposits and debit card)

I would ideally pick up Alicante airport , I would welcome any suggearions

Thanks

I am not sure why you object to the deposit on your CC - although some actually take the money out of your account most only freeze it so that in the event of an accident they can get the damage repaired. You will pay a lot of money for a no risk insurance probably at least 80 Euros per week. If you can accept the deposit situation and get an annual European insurance (40 Euros or less per year) and you hire more than once you will be quids in if you are a safe driver. With Doyouspain (out of season) I have never paid more that 40 Euros for a weeks hire (sometimes less than 20 Euros) and have been clear from accidents (thankfully).

Of course from time to time there may be a ding or two and that is what the annual insurance is for -there may be a while before you can recover the insured loss and potentially an excess payment but all in all you would be quids in.

Even in the UK you often have to leave a deposit when hiring a car.

I have just finished renting a car for one month and would like to recommend Gray's Car Rental in Orihuela Costa.

Car was not new but very good, price excellent, none of the airport rental companies scams and last but not least communication and service were outstanding, including pick up and drop off at airport.

Nothing more to say, as a happy customer I highly recommend Richard and will use again for future requirements.

Has anyone else been charged a 'tax' at Alicante airport when hiring a car. I hired this week through DYS and when I got to the Record/ Gold Car desk I was told that there is a 17.50 Eu tax which has been in place since last year - I've never had that before and I think it was probably because I didn't take their insurance and that is how they make their money. Is this a normal thing now or do I need to go back to DYS to get it refunded?

I also hired a car, from Record via Do You Spain, and did not have to pay any additional tax when picking up the keys?

I took out full to full fuel, had my own insurance, though I did have to pay a deposit of €70 to cover any charges that may have been due if i didn't return with a full tank - but this was refunded to my credit card the day after I returned the car

I would definitely go back to DYS and get clarity on what this tax was for and chase for refund if it wasn't included in your quotation
