Well done Steve, I'll need to read up on this for the future.
Is this the same as applying for residency or is it a temporary thing which allows you to stay in Spain as you like but is only valid for a certain number of years?

Yes initially it’s a year then re apply for a further 2

So for that 3 year period are all your tax affairs conducted in Spain or are you still a UK resident for tax purposes.

No you become Spanish resident for tax purposes it’s for 5 years in total
