If I can add my tuppence worth here!

I am a regular flyer to and from the UK to ALC. To me, these planes are like buses and (normally!) on average, I am on one every couple of weeks or so.

What you have to consider here is that you are not paying Emirates first-class prices for a RyanAir flight, you are getting a cheap flight. I look back to the days I was paying £300 return on a train from Manchester to London, which took 1hr40m and had just as many if not more passengers as a typical tourist plane at the time and then I compare that to my €50 flight and, well, that is why I compare them to buses.

Yes we know that all the airlines start with a basic price then if you want to book a seat, take a bag, be able to breathe in and out, upgrade to a qualified pilot etc (ok I am being sarcastic) - there is a charge, but these are all things you know all airlines do.

O'Leary was very clear with his attitude when he basically admitted that he can do what he wants and treat customers however he wants, because, as long as his prices are cheaper than the other airline's people will still book to fly with him! He is not wrong in his strategy! Morally, of course, any other company that openly treated their customer base like something they stood in would crash and burn (probably not a good use of words!)

As Les has pointed out, some of us are choosing this airline out of necessity. I now have daylight at the end of a very long tunnel and hope to return to Spain in the very near future, having now booked with Ryanair to return soon. It could be cancelled, I know that, as other airlines could, but one thing I can be assured of is that if there is half a chance someone will fly then you can bet your bottom dollar OLeary will take to the skies.

As for landing in a place 100km from where you thought, that is very simply a case of doing research. I appreciate what was meant with the comment, but that issue can be avoided.

In Summary, I have had OK and poor service from Jet2, EasyJet, RyanAir, Monarch and flyBMI (back in the day!) as well as Vueling and BA.

These are all cheap, no thrills airlines offering that exact cheap service, often at not so cheap prices, and all just with a different coloured wrapper on their planes. A much of a muchness.

At the end of the day, I will choose whatever airline best suits my budget, flight time and destination at the time of booking.

Hope it helps

Hi mr handyuk,

I wasn’t aware I was suggesting you don’t use Ryan air ,merely pointing out the pit falls . I don’t really agree with your synopsis that they are all the same, I have flown with most of airlines you mentioned and find easyJet the best for us, it’s not about the price it’s the bloody principle.

Call me old fashioned but I am a customer and do like to be treated like one...

I believe Ryan airs ethos towards its customer is also the same for its workers, they are awful and I personally would rather walk.....

Ps. Trip to Barcelona was booked by the mrs, she’s not allowed to do it anymore...

Regards

Terry

I agree, you get what you pay for and as long as you accept you are paying for the cheapest service available you’ll usually be satisfied. I also was a frequent flyer, taking around 40 flights a year between the two of us backwards and forwards to the UK. Therefore, RA being a bit cheaper makes a big difference. I get people who fly once a year saying they’d never use RA, but it can become pure economics.

I’ve noticed over the last year that Jet2.com had come far closer to RAs prices, so can be a far more viable alternative. Also given Jet2.com never quibbled about my refund when my last flight was cancelled due to the lockdown, but all I got from RA was a voucher.

Fully accept what your saying, I do have a property in Spain and will travel more than

Just once a year, but not ever with Ryan air....

I agree.  RA do get a bad press, much of it justified, and I am one of those people awaiting a cash refund rather than a voucher. There is a lot to annoy you about RA, but the way I see it is that they fly from my local airport in the UK to my local airport in Spain, at times that suit us, and they are usually on time, and they are almost always the cheapest.  At the end of it all its a couple of hours.  Would I want to fly long haul with them? No.  But for trips to Europe at a good price they are hard to beat, and doubtless this is why Mr O'Leary keeps going.

As a final observation I would say if you are ever going to buy food etc on board, best to have the right money as they 'never seem to have any change' and to date probably owe us a few quid .

Lets  hope we all get to fly again soon, with our chosen carrier!

Ryan air have launched a fantastic new upgrade scheme  that’s guaranteed to vastly improve your flight experience

For just a few pounds more, passengers can book the same route with another airline.......

Ryanair also cancelled my August flight.  I was quite relieved and did exactly what has been suggested;  booked with EasyJet!

Hi,

In case you haven’t got it, easyJet have an app.

You can put your booking ref in and can do everything ,including check in and passport info .at the airport it tells you what gate to go to and you can download boarding passing too.

I love it

Enjoy your flight..

Julie Tony, point very well made.

These budget Airlines are merely a convenient and economical means of getting from AtoB . Best sensible advice would be to take them for what they are and dont get stressed . In doing so there will be little to worry about and within 2-3 hrs you will be in the land of the Sun !

What more can you ask?

Crivens. I only asked if anyone knew why my August flights had been cancelled by Ryanair. I was not expecting to start a travel war. However, most interested in everyone opinion. Thanks for sharing and allowing  some travellers to let off some steam.
