Go on holiday autos do a search. It will give you the cheapest and also tell you where the location is.

UPDATE:

many thanks to all that have given advice here. i have bitten the bullet and booked thru Firefly (£79 for 15 days) and taken out a yearly excess policy with Questor as Shayden advised (for £42).

my fingers are crossed!!

Best of luck Tony. There are some very bad reviews on Google regarding people trying to get money back from Questor but hopefully you’ll never need to contact them

No issues at all with the claim I made. Paid within days of uploading the claim. I suppose people are more likely to post complaints than praise.

We had our first claim  with Questor and no problem

This was last year for €170 for a puncture!

I think the amount of damage relates to how quickly or how easily they settle. Reading comments the 3rd party assessors Questor use seem to demand a lot of detail if the cost of repair runs high and the problem looks as if it’s hard to get enough detail to satisfy them, especially from the rental companies. I had insurance cover to that effect once but not from Questor. I scraped car off protruding briar/branch on roadside. It wasn’t much but came to €460. I swapped quite a few letters between rental company and insurers but it was never enough. The insurers wouldn’t follow up with them and I hadn’t time to keep chasing it up so eventually wrote off the money and took the hit. Wouldn’t blame anybody for not paying for the excess at the airport though, the cost is a rip off. It’s risen crazily to €20-€30 a day. So if a car is rented out 200 days a year that between €4000-€6000 per annum. Huge profit there considering they’d be getting a good deal on fleet insurance or buying in bulk if you like.

For the first week tyre was okay but second week tyre started to go down and we kept paying 5 euros to pump it up at the garage. Found out could have had it repaired ourselves at the end of holiday for 10 euros. Anyway got money back no problem.

I use  the main rental companies such as firefly & goldcar but don't take out the extra insurance with them.

I pay an annual premium of £39.99 from icarhireinsurance.com.. it covers for the year and offers zero excess .
