You can get yearly car hire insurance cover for around £60. I`ve not used it yet but plan to this coming August as I make at least visits a year so works out a lot cheaper.

These annual car hire insurances are for the excess that may get charged if the car has damage or scratches.  It's not comprehensive insurance that should always be supplied in with the car hire prices.

It's well worth having the excess insurance though, at only £45 approx per year.

please go over the car before leaving the terminal and get as many photos of any damage they report on your sheet and any extra that you find.

try to move car into the light if you can. go over it with a fine tooth comb. report any damage you find at the desk, show photos and have them check it out so they cant come back to you with it.

It is a pain in the neck especially if you pick up late at night like we have to, as the desks are a long way from the pick up points, there are some desks at. the pick up area open in the day though depending who you lend from.

once they realise you have photo evidence there is never usually a problem.

we have had some really cheap car hire with no problems this way, with taking the annual insurance from the uk and not there excess insurance.

as I say its a pain and can take a while taking photos and reporting back, (which we have had to do everytime by the way as there has always been extra scratches etc not on recorded sheet!)

but for the extra money you save it is well worth it for us.
