I am driving back to U.K. alone in my right hand drive car, any idea how to manage the Problem of Paying at the toll gate on the left hand side?  When I came to Spain, I had my son in the car with me, so it was easier as he used my card from the Passenger side.

I will really appreciate your response.

Thank you.

Morning Joe

Just pull up about a metre from the pay point, jump out and pay as normal

My husband had damaged his shoulder a while ago and couldn’t lift it high enough to reach; it became my job and there were no problems 🤪🥂

Thank you very much Angebadge, I was worried the barrier would come down, before I get back in the car and get through. So this means it allows a few minutes, for drivers like me to get back in their car.

Thanks again, for your response.

It's not that unusual.

When I pull in to the booth if the motorway behind me is busy I use my hazard lights. The main thing is not to stress, there are plenty of Spanish and French drivers who can't navigate a toll booth!

Been there, done that many times Joe, thousands have to do it every day. Happens in the airport often too & car parks. As advised above keep car back a small bit and out from the toll machine to step in. It won’t close down until you pass through

I used to turn the engine off and jump into the passenger seat, especially for carparks too as sometimes there's no space to get out of the car at the barriers

Thank you dinnerout (Steve), 8102Mko and Home Secure for all your response. It was not a Problem initially, until my son changed his travel Plans. I am now reassured, my best option will be to walk up to the machine, scan my card and walk back to the car as quickly as Possible.

Thanks a lot guys. Wonderful, helpful site.

Try bip&drive.

https://www.bipdrive.com/en/

It’s the electronic tag which works in France and Spain. It has to be delivered to a Spanish address but then you connect it to your debit or credit card.

I only had to pay a delivery fee then you’ll pay about €2 for every month you use it plus the toll charges. With the occasional user tariff, you only pay when you use it.

Worth a look.

Thank you Shaun, my wife looked at that but she was told it should have been done in the U.K. before I travelled and that they don’t deliver to Spanish address.  This was a one off long drive, which I don’t intend to do again. The car is Permanently based in the U.K. I have a Spanish registered car here, which we use. Thank you so much. I will still look into it.

You have to order it from the Spanish website which I’ve attached. I have seen a UK website where you have to order before you leave. I think you can ask/pay for an extra holder so you can use it in both cars.

Hope you get sorted.

Shaun
