I don’t think you pay tax on state pension.or am l incorrect believeing this, your private pension will be taxed instead.?

State pension is taxable along with any "other" incomes in Spain, if its your only income then its below tax threshold but still needs declaring. Civil service pensions are paid taxed in Uk at source, so declared but no tax on in Spain as already paid in Uk.

Thanks for that you learn something every day.so it is a pension scheme you and the Government pay into while you are serving in one of these careers.

In the case of pensions for past Government service, double taxation is avoided by allocating an exclusive right to tax to the paying state. This means that in all cases where a UK Government Service pension is paid to a Spanish resident it will be taxable only in the UK, apart from where, exceptionally, it is paid to a Spanish national. HMRC maintain a list of the UK pensions that are classified as government pensions for the purposes of the Double Taxation Convention.

The only issue with state pension for ex Pat's in Spain with brexit is your pension would be frozen at the rate you get unless UK have a country to country agreement for annual inflation of cost of living other than that you'll get you pension

In an attempt to clarify any misunderstanding, a crown pension can only be taxed in the UK, whereas virtually all other income is taxed in Spain. That means that you get the benefit of a tax allowance in both the UK and Spain.

You don't pay tax on a crown pension in Spain, but it has to be declared in a special section of the tax return. It's then taken into consideration in calculating the rate at which any taxable income in Spain is taxed and, as Kim has said, it can push that income into the next tax band, e.g. from 19.5% to 23%.

We have to think what's best for people still living in the UK, whatever that may be.
