We are due to fly 26th Dec and return to UK 3th Jan, I have contacted Ryan air who say if I change flights there is a £90 flight change fee.

This is because they have not cancelled the flight and even though I am not permitted to travel as we are not residents they are standing by their policy.

Anyone else had any problems?

Mary

Just checked ryanair app. Should have had family visiting in December. They can change their flights and only pay price difference.

Hi  I went onto their Chatbot this morning and then spoke to Customer Services Agent for the same reason and the lady on the telephone was lovely and said you can book new flights up to 15 March and just pay the difference, we also had luggage and she was able to transfer the luggage onto the new flight with no extra charges for moving or extra for luggage the only extra cost was 13.90 pounds for new flights.  They will only give you a refund or voucher if they cancel your flight NOT on advice of Government.  Hope this helps.  Good luck  Gillian

Hi Mary,

Sorry to hear this - I remember Ryanair doing something similar when the Spanish lockdown was first lifted.

Just a thought, but if Spain maintains its policy of only allowing Spanish nationals and foreign nationals who are Spanish residents to return to Spain, it may prove uneconomic for Ryanair to operate the flight.  If I remember correctly, you have to give Ryanair a minimum of 7 days' notice to switch flights free of charge - as you're already beyond that period, perhaps you could sit it out until Christmas Eve on the basis that, if Ryanair are likely to cancel the flight, they would do so before Christmas Day?  If they don't, you're still going to have to pay to change, but if they cancel, you can re-book for free.

Kind regards,

Kim

May I ask when were  your flights booked for and from where? Did they change both outbound and inbound.

Our flights for Boxing Day were only 20 for both of us so not unduly bothered about losing this amount. It's the return to uk on the 3rd Jan where it is 180 pounds that we don't want to lose.

Hi Mary,

Spain has just confirmed that the air and sea travel ban from UK to Spain will continue until 6pm on 5 January, so unless you're a Spanish resident, you won't be able to take the flight.  It must be worth having this conversation with Ryanair - here's the link to the information:

Hi  I actually had the flights from London Gatwick to Alicante but changed them Alicante to Dublin. They lady from Customer Services did it all on line for me.  If you are not sure how the Chatbot works, you go on line ask it a question, it sends an answer which you say you are not happy with and one of the options come up to say would you like to speak to an Agent, click on yes, you may have to hold but you are in a queue, don't leave the site or you will have to start all over again, also you need to reply to them immediately, if they don't get a reply within 2 minutes they think you have decided not to hold, today I was lucky as I only had to wait for around 10 mins.
