Hi All

I am taking the plunge and purchasing an apartment as a holiday home in the Villa Martin area, the estate agent has put me in touch with a solicitor firm called Mediterranean Law Firm who they use I was just interested to know if anyone has used this company before.

Thanks

Congratulations  on your  purchase  👏  and I  hope you have  many Happy Holidays  in it

But  it  is  strongly  advised  to get your  own  independent  legal  advisor,  I  can recommend,   NCH Solicitors  near Punta  Marina, He  can  be contacted  online or using  WhatsApp,  I  found his fee very  reasonable  compared  to some of Big  name Lawyers  about, He  has a Website  up and running

Best of luck  👍   going  forward

I know this is a recurring theme that you should never go with the solicitor recommended by the agent and I know there have been some horror stories, however , I believe these are a small minority of sales.

I purchased some years ago and went with the recommended legal firm, I did not have any problems at all and it was a very efficient service.

Totally agree with you. Especially as most properties foreigners are buying are on housing developments, "urbanizaciónes".If you are buying a rustic property than maybe use an independent lawyer.

But if you don't know an independent lawyer, I don't see the sense.

Cheers, J

Similar story, we used the legal firm our estate agent recommended and they have been fantastic. Smooth property purchase, handled our non-residential tax returns, now handling our residents tax returns after succesfully dealing with our pre-Brexit residency application, dealt with a neighbour dispute and their staff are always available and very helpful for legal queries. I would be more than happy to recommend them to anyone

I know some people have major issues but I can only speak from experience.

Hi,

To go with  the solicitor suggested by the estate agency has nothing wrong . The way it works is that the estate agency like to work with their own people, it makes the process easy and smooth, as everyone knows how everybody works without ambiguity.

No smoke and mirrors like some might think

The problem is this - for every 100 people who have had a good experience using the Agent recommended solicitor (Abogado) there are one or two who have been badly ripped off.

This is why we always recommend an independent Abogado. It's to prevent anyone becoming one of the minority.

So a 98% (anecdotal) success rate?

Do we have any data from people using independent lawyers for comparison?

Because 98% trouble-free seems perfectly acceptable to me.

It's fantastic. However not so fantastic if you end up being one of the tiny minority that lose significant sums of money.

I’ve been here a long time and I haven’t heard of anybody being screwed by the agents lawyers , if you have proper evidence of this you should post it so we can all see !!
