Hello

We have my heart set on moving to Villamartin and have been planning for some time but recently I have been hearing that there has been an increase in crime in the local areas. crime such as burglaries and pickpocketing etc. Is this correct and is it something that is being exaggerated  or something we really need to be worried about as we have enough of these crimes in the UK and is it just down to being street wise and nothing really to put us off enjoying planning for relocating. Much appreciated for any honest feedback or advice on this subject

There is a film on FB filmed in Pau8 Villamartin where 3 youths have been filmed trying to break down the front door of a property, fortunately they were unsuccessful.

We live in Montegolf, a few weeks ago there were 2 burglaries and 1 attempted burglary in as many weeks. We have now joined a neighbourhood watch group.

You will find pick pockets wherever there are crowds of people.  At the moment not many crowds but obviously in a normal summer there are.  It is the same anywhere in the world.

Burglaries take place everywhere too.  At the moment there are fewer people about and many houses that have obviously been empty for some time as second homes that can't be visited.  It is inevitable that opportunist criminals will target such properties, again this is the same around the world.  Your best security is a nosey neighbour!  And an alarm for when the property isn't occupied.

Hi Pelham999, I have owned a property in Los Dolses, just next to Villamartin, for 4 years now. Crime levels seem to be low. The next door neighbour had her purse stolen late 2019 whilst she was in a local bar. Playing golf at Villamartin golf course we have been warned (by the course steward) of thieves on the course.  We had money stolen whilst golfing at Lo Romero, a few miles from Villamartin. That is about the most we have come across in the 4 years.

Personally I do not think there is any significant amount of crime in the area but there are always opportunist thieves about in any country.  However there was a post a last week that mentioned the increase in squatters which was a worry as the law seems to be lax in how they are dealt with. Never heard of any problems in the area around us though, fingers crossed!

Rgds,

Aitch.

Hi

Like the Uk I’d be very surprised if the crime rate like burglary and such like had gone up due partly because of this pandemic

More people have less money in their pockets

When we bought in 2003 it was a lot worse and in my view has improved no end mainly due to neighbours etc looking out for each other

You would be very unlucky to get burgled now but be aware of pickpockets as they are about, only take out what you think you will need

All the best

Rgds,

Aitch.

Thanks Aitch It looks like its no worse than anywhere else as long as you got your wits about you. The main concern was the property not being broken into to be honest.
