Afternoon

I travelled with my family from the Costa Blanca to Bordeaux and stayed over night in Madrid at the "TRYP Los Angeles" which is by Wyndham. Just on the outskirts of Madrid but within a miles is a huge retail park with loads of restaurants and shops.

Secure, clean, plenty of parking and well worth the money. (€60.00) Search "Tryp Madrid Getafe Los Angeles Hotel" and it should come up on booking.com or melia.com

Hi, We drive from Playa Flamenca to Santander and back again each year. I attach the route we use, no tolls and around 8 hours.

 https://www.viamichelin.com/web/Routes?departure=Current%20Location&departureGps=true&step-1=03170%20Ciudad%20Quesada%2C%20Spain&arrival=Santander%2C%20Spain&arrivalId=31NDEzdzgxMGNORE11TkRZeE5ERT1jTFRNdU9EQTVNdz09&index=0&vehicle=0&type=1&distance=mi&currency=EUR&highway=false&toll=true&vignette=false&orc=true&crossing=true&caravan=false&shouldUseTraffic=false&car=hatchback&fuel=diesel&fuelCost=1.15&allowance=0&corridor=&departureDate=&arrivalDate=&fuelConsumption=

Cut and paste the above and it will give you all the information you need. We used to do it in one hit. However, you have the worry of catching the boat when there is so far to drive. We find hotels a couple of hours from the docks and it gives a chance to look around somewhere different. Last year we stayed in Burgos, this year we are staying in Torrelevega. We have the Sunday boat back and have decided to get most our duty frees there, save dragging them all across Spain. Roughly 40 minutes from the docks. We are paying 30 Euros for a night. Probably save that in wear and tear on the car. On the way back we go between Burgos and Madrid and find somewhere to Stop. We are returning in May and paying 40 Euros for a night. We use booking.com and have always had a nice place for 30 to 40 Euros. Just makes the journey so much easier. Watch out for fuel prices and do make sure you fill up before getting on the boat as it is so much cheaper here. Have you booked the ferry? If you search the internet plenty of people will give you a code to get 10% of the crossing not the cabin or food. All helps. If you need any info please let me know. Kevin

Hi

As advised just put your address in to Satnav. You should by pass Madrid. You will have a small toll to pay but it is not expensive. We drove from Bilbao in November and stopped in Burgos, but it was not necessary. 8 to 9 hours to Villa Martin. Plenty of good places for pit stops on way. We are doing the return journey June and I will not be stopping overnight. Best of luck👍

Hi..we did your route two years ago..using a sat nav in one go!

It was so easy..within a mile of leaving the port we were on the motorway..a glorious drive..fantastic mountain views! and hardly any traffic..

We had two ten minute breaks for petrol..(petrol stations are directly off the motorway as on an A road) and packed lunch!

Because we had a boot and back seats full of our belongings we did not drive as fast...we did the drive in just over nine hours..We would recommend this as we had the best nights sleep on the ferry and we're rearing to go!

Wish you well and safe journey...Hennie

Luck oh luck we had already booked for June dog friendly but knowing me I could not wait so had a quick look or a phone call to Brittany ferry and got return 10april just over £600 we much prefer the economy boat as there is no wait for the dog on the other boat she has to stay in the car for about an hour

Hi I travelled on my own (I'm nearly 70) with my dog via Zaragoza and Valencia (bypassed both) and stayed in lovely clean modern hotel called the Palacios in a town called Alfaro. They have certain rooms with roof terrace for dogs. If book ahead with Booking.com average 40-45 pounds for night in ...

...March. Lovely Spanish town worth visiting about 200 miles from Santander, would help break the journey. I found it a good route, amazing scenery, plenty of service stops. Then you could start out fresh and early the next day for the rest of the journey. I think it is advisable if you've never done it before and everything's different.

All Good wishes,

Sherry

Hi Tony and Susan, I followed my Sat nav so probably used the tolls, they do save a lot of time but thers always an alternative route. I remember Alfaro being just a few mins off the main route and as I drove into the town the Palacio was facing me, so easy.

Bon Voyage,

Sherry
