Did all your joints ache ? Since I started taking Simvastatin about 6 months ago I have a lot of pain my left shoulder

iI put it down to age....  iI have been on them for a few years now and no longer take any notice. But my wife did have as she very high cholesterol due to ( (Parents) .  She spoke to her doctor who basically said aches and pain are minor compared to what may happen if you stop taking the statin !!!!! Put it this way she no longer mentions the aches.

Could be age I'm 61 working on an oil rig hard work at times.

But as you say the aches are nothing compared with what can happen with the    cholesterol there have a lot of young male deaths in our family due heart problems.

Coming out to the Torrevieja area to look for a holiday home next month hopefully a bit of sun helps the aches !

Hi Ray

Yes I also use flora proactiv as well,

not a lover of statins I tried a few before I found one that didn’t make my joints ache (rotuvastatin) and was advised by my GP that a reading of 11.2 was a high risk so had to bite the bullet.

I'm on statins Crestor for ages. I haven't noticed any side effects. I have bought them many times 20mg over the counter without a prescription.

For the record my Consultant Cardiologist has no time for flora proactive or similar products. He says, butter is  natural and fine in moderation.

If you are going to live permanently you need to obtain residencia and then you can register with a gp and get free on prescription,,on holiday ,ehic and register as temporary with health centre gp ,but only for about 6 months, you can however go into a farmacia and buy statins over the counter,(take your old box so you get like for like) ,cost for "usual" statins about €1.20 .Never had a problem in 30 years.

Once registered as a resident on the SIP system ,you see the doctor and you get a prescription which will run for a year.

This prescription can  ,at present ,be fulfilled over the counter at any farmacia, the prescription has a barcode which is read in the farmacia by the integrated system in oprtation, you can only get your prescription on the date indicated ,you cannot get it in advance, you have to collect before 13 days after the issue date, you cannot get in advance,if not collected within the 13 day window, you have to go back to the doctor to renew the prescription, this is to prevent hoarding and save the health system money.

Good system ,bit of a problem when leaving Spain for a long period.

Best  in that case to purchase a stock to take with you or use your ehic (as Spanish resident it oprterates in reverse in other eu countries).

Works well .

Sorry, you're wrong about collecting within a defined time period. The new system means that you can collect at at any time after a medication becomes available:
