Hi

We use la caixa bank that are ok , we have a house in pau 8 Calle la bohemme which we rent out long term, the rent goes into our la caixa account , we use their home insurance which is a bit more expensive but they offset the charges so swings and roundabouts, any legal work we use bodils in the plaza they are really good and do our yearly tax return etc

Hope you get out soon

Hi Cheryl

That's what I was going to do as there is a Sabadell as you come over the motorway from Villamartin by the roundabout, we may still do that yet but looking into it more I have put an application into Starling Bank to open a personal account then a Euro account to pay the direct debits.

We have a Nationwide account and use our credit card to do purchases when in Spain but I thought they had stopped the free cash withdrawals now on your debit card.....!!

Hi Fleplus offers commision free cash withdrawals and purchases, european breakdown cover and worldwide family travel insurance its £13 per month also includes mobile phone cover and yes l do work for Nationwide!

Like the sales pitch lol, we only have flex account so we get charged for debit card withdrawals, I have set up Starling now seems straight forward have to add a Euro account speaking to a lawyer from Sun-Lawyers that Craig mentioned tomorrow see what they suggest.

Villamartin is where we initialy looked to buy in 1988 but the price of properties here was high compared to properties in the Quesada area, we eventually bought in El Raso a lovely 3 bed villa 28 properties sharing a communal pool but 60% had private pools put in by the builder, the area is lovely but we were always drawn to Villamartin.

My mam loved the Plaza god rest her sole :( she loved Eduardo's and Quesada fish shop she would have been over the moon that we had managed eventually to get a place there think that is why we have bought again as I said I wouldn't come back to Spain after the last time but life is to short to hold grudges i guess.

Thanks to everyone that has commented been very useful and hopefully we may see some of you when we can all travel again, stay safe and keep well.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Hi Sue

We have hummed and harred over what to do as we are in 2 minds, at the moment I have opened the Starling Euro account and Revolut which a few people use, I am tempted to go with Sabadell although I can't get away with the charges that will probably go to paying the apartment insurance or near enough.

We haven't finally gone either way yet as we have just sent the docs to the Solicitor, we have gone with Sun-Lawyers as someone mentioned they used them on this forum and were very happy with the service they got.

Regards

Andrew

Good morning to all,

Hope everyone is safe and well and not going stir crazy with whats going on in the world at the moment....!!

We are Andrew & Eleanor from a mainly overcast and rainy North East England although very friendly place to live and always happy to help anyone :)

I own a chauffeur company in Newcastle and Eleanor has just retired from her job to work with me part time in the office looking after the accounts, presently we have no plans to move out permanently to Spain as I have another 5 years possibly to work before I will consider retirement.

We have been searching for 2 years for the right property and now we feel we have found it a lovely 2 bed apartment in Pau 8 Villamartin, we have always liked this area in general everything is close by and the Plaza is lovely with a wealth of pubs and restaurants and the coast is a 5 minute drive.

The only thing I am struggling with at the moment is which bank to open an account with, we will be non residents I am reading and hearing different things about each mainly to do with charges, I keep coming back to Sabadell as we will only have the utilities coming out the account we are paying cash for the apartment so everyone's advice would be welcome

Look forward to possibly meetings some of you and enjoying a few San Miguels in the sun.

Regards Andrew & Eleanor

Hi - we have had an apartment in the same location just past the golf course and been to and fro for years now but still live in England although both retired. (Family commitments).  We have always banked with.     “Bankinter”  and there’s a little branch in Villa Martin (just passed the square towards the beach) although we do get charges, we find their service is second to non and they do internet banking too. The staff all speak English and no matter what we have popped in for- they assist us without any appointment needed. We have received bank statements sent to us regularity as we also have direct debits coming out of our Spanish bank account. It is good to know that we can email them and they will deal with any concerns we may have, so we never have to wait to visit Spain to resolve this.  I would highly recommend them. Have fun - looking forward to when we can all get to visit Spain again. Regards.

Hi Andrew & Eleanor,

We're also from the sunny north east !! and brought a property 4 years ago in Cabo Roig. We used Sabadell Bank and had no problems with them. Always helpful when we go into the branch on the strip.

We now do all our banking via the app when back in UK. I would recommend them

Hi,

We brought a villa in San Miguel de salinas last October, although arranged through our lawyer we ended up with a Sabadell account.

They seem to offer the cheapest account, but. We have had a bumpy start, with our account shut down several times all due to their own clerical errors.

We paid our lawyer a fixed fee to open an account and obtain an NIE number each.

You will need an NIE number each... checkout Jim’s guides, all very helpful stuff.

Hi Terry

Hope your all sorted now......

We have had a property in Spain before so N.I.E numbers we already have plus a little wiser to pitfalls that are thrown up towards you and mainly may I say by our own country men....!!

I have sent the details of our Starling account to the solicitor and she is happy to use these as we don't intend to be resident now or in the near future which will save us the account fees charged by the Spanish banks.

Thanks

Andrew
