Hi there

How often in a year are you allowed to visit family or holiday in the uk from Spain once you’ve received your NLV or residency please ?

This question for a family member ….

With a normal uk passport can you visit Spain every other month as long as within the 180 days a year , eg month on month off or 3 months on 3 months off ?
Thanks

Hi Rob,

UK citizens resident in Spain with a Non Lucrative Visa (NLV) can leave Spain for a maximum of 182 days (6 months) per year; however, they can only be absent for a total of 10 months in the first 5 years of temporary residency, i.e. until they obtain permanent residency.

For non-resident UK citizens visiting Spain, yes, alternating 30 days in Spain, 30 days in the UK, 30 days in Spain, etc. throughout the year would comply with the 90/180 rule.  That said, it may be prudent to plan the Spanish visits for a few days shorter, rather than risk over-staying should you encounter a problem, e.g. lost passport, minor medical issue, etc.

Kind regards,

Kim
