I apologise if the information is already somewhere in the message pages, but I have not managed to find the answer that I need!

My SUMA has been collected by Direct Debit, however, I have not received any Bill - it may be in my post box in Spain but we are in the UK at the moment, can you tell me who I should contact in order to obtain a copy of the bill?

TIA

Heather

I've never had a bill. The direct debit was set up by my solicitors and I believe they get the bill. I can see the transaction on my online bank statement but have never had any bill for SUMA payments and we've been living here 15 years.

Our Solicitor set it up but we are Non-Resident and need a copy in order to pay our Non Resident tax.

I don't know if this will be possible in your situation but a couple of years ago, when I was still getting paper notifications through the post from my local SUMA, I had some requirement to check something, I can't remember what.

Using my reference on one of the printed bills, I accessed my SUMA's website and was able to go into the accounts section and see all my bills from day one for all the items they bill me for, and print out any of them.

Nowadays they don't send paper bills, its all done by email and direct debit, but I'm sure I could still access their website and see my details if required.

You'd obviously have to do a bit of research, starting with getting a copy of one of your bills from your solicitor, and go from there.

You can usually download a proof of payment from your bank account, this should be enough to aid your non resident tax payment.

Using the link below, you can use details from any old bill to get to your profile and download an electronic copy of the current bill/proof of payment:

SUMA is the agency that collects the payment on behalf of your local town hall.   The payment during about September/early Ocober will be for your IBI (similar to the property rates in the UK).

I don't have the laptop available that contains the detail that would allow me to access my SUMA records around IBI payments but I did notice some changes to the whole payment structure this year.

Previously, we've paid one lump sum a year:

In 2020, in November we paid 342.07 Euros

In 2021, in October we paid 342.07 Euros

In 2022, in October we paid 342.07 Euros

In 2023, in May we paid 34.80 Euros and 8.10 Euros. Then, in October we paid 34.80 Euros, 8.10 Euros and 342.07 Euros.

Has anyone else seen this new split and know what it is? Personally, I'd have expected it to increase each year by a small amount but it's been flat from 2020 until this year where effectively the amount we've paid has gone up c84 Euros - or c25%?

(note - all these payments are taken by direct debit rather than us paying on receipt of a bill)

The 342.07 is your IBI or council tax. In 2020 it was delayed until November but normally comes out in October.

The 34.80 in two payments is the solid waste collection tax. It used to be part of the water bill but they now take it as a separate tax and reduced your water bills by the same amount. Some places take it as a once a year payment but Villarmartin collects it twice a year. That's your rubbish collection tax and your water bills will have come down by the same amount.

The 8.10 is the council charge for certain works that have been done in your area. Each area has different works and it can apply to anything they need to recoup the money for.

So your IBI hasn't gone up. It is still the same amount each year and the extra payment has reduced your water bills by the same amount.

Thanks - I suspect I could have established that if I'd been able to view the bills (which I can just not on this device) - it's not clear on the bank statements what specifically each payment is for.

As an aside, my water bills have also gone up this year but that needs me to check those bills so as to establish whether that is due to usage or some other fun and games!
