The "golden rule" is never use the agents solicitor. An independent solicitor will hopefully better protect your interest, whereas the agents solicitor is only interested in protecting the agent. An independent solicitor will look over the Escritura before the sale and ensure your safety.
I also bought a repossession and my solicitor fees were considerably less than 1200. Ask around for an independent agent, there should be a few in Campoamor, get a recommendation. It might be worth paying a little more to have complete peace of mind....

We purchased last year and searched several solicitors before settling on carmen conejero, she is just amazing, young, well clued up, English speaking, like a dog with a bone for speed and effenciencey...and she was the cheapest. She is more of a friend now and does all legal stuff for us (some thing not even charging). Give her a call see what you think 34 609 31 84 55. As others have said it is vital to use of services of an independent solicitor who will sort all the legal matters, carry out the necessary searches, arrange an appointment with the Notary and generally walk you through the whole process. Additionally they will arrange your NIE's and help with getting your bank account set up, even to the point of getting your water and electricity accounts organised with the Direct Debits set up. My personal recommendation of which Bank to use would be Sabadell, as we have been impressed with their service over the last eighteen months.
