Whilst walking my dog, near the Blue Lagoon Office, on his lead, I saw à woman approaching, with two dogs not on leads. They both defacated, and she did NOT pick it up, and dispose of it in one of the many bins provided. She was about 20 metres behind them, and they were running around free.

One of her dogs approached mine, and it unsettled him...with good reason. In April, we were attacked by a dog NOT ON A LEAD. In protecting my dog, who is a rescue, and very nervous with other dogs, because of the attack, I sustained severe bites to my right calf.

I called to the woman, and asked her if they were her dogs, and if so, PUT THEM ON THEIR LEADS IMMEDIATELY. It is the LAW.

Her attitude was very aggressive, and she reluctantly put a lead on the dog, and then also the other. I also pointed out they her dogs had fouled the Public area, and SHE IS OBLIGED TO PICK IT UP AND PUT IT IN THE BIN PROVIDED. She became even more rude, so I walked away. She then let her dogs back off their leads.

Now, she wouldn't have known the history of us being attacked by a free roaming dog...but SHE HAD NO NEED TO KNOW. IT IS THE LAW.

Myself to back up my reactions, and my comments to her...here is the evidence. I am 74 years old.

8+ hours waiting in emergencies for treatment, Lost nearly a litre of blood, 18 stitches, mostly internal to repair my badly torn calf muscle, and 7 months of pain and infection as a result.

No matter how well you think your dogs are trained, something can go seriously WRONG. YOU MUST KEEP YOUR DOGS 100% UNDER YOUR CONTROL...OR FACE THE CONSEQUENCES..BOTH FINANCIAL, EMOTIONAL, AND TRAGIC IF THE WORST HAPPENS.

That's shocking!  I hope your leg has recovered.  Were the police able to prosecute the dog owner?  It seems ever more common these days that there are some who simply believe the rules don't apply to them 😔

Take care,

Kim

Hi so sorry to read about your incident with irresponsible dog owner. Hope you are ok now. About 10 years ago we had the same problem with a Pit Bull Terrier, Our dog was on a lead we were returning about 12am from our local bar . The Pit Bull had obviously been booted out to roam the streets m but decided to attack our dog for no reason ,She was also a rescue dog we brought from the Uk in 2003. She had to have 52 stitches I broke my tendons in my fingers trying to get the dog off ours , my wife had her little finger end bitten off .The screaming was so loud it woke the owners of the Pit Bull up , he came out in his underwear & got the dog off. we got the Police who took the Pit  Bull away ,later it was put down unfortunately. Pity they didn't put the owners down .We were taken to Elche Hospital for repairs, Our dog we took to San Vincente Animal Hospital ,open 24hrs. She survived & was timid around other dogs too, afterwards. After a court hearing we were awarded 7500 euros , never got the cash or a penny for vets bills.   They left Spain & returned to Germany I think, declared themselves bankrupt so we were told . So many break Urbanisation rules by not putting dogs on leads , not clearing up their dog poo , Like most things now , nobody to police it .I would just employ wardens with the power to impose massive fines , this would pay their wages & make it a safer world. But we are wasting our time  nobody actually cares except responsible dog owners & many normal responsible  people . This is what our world is coming to , what a shame!!!      Take care .

Without their name and address, the Police will not/cannot prosecute. The dog ran off, and the owner walked away.

As for my leg wound? Horrendous treatment, absolute indifference, and infection spread all around my body. It would appear that one vein is blocked, and possibility of a thrombosis in my lower leg. Apparently the Spanish Health Service will NOT provide a scan, and I must pay privately...about 450 euros, more or less. Not possible to find that sort of money, especially now. Just have to get on with it.

Just about given up. Get abuse every time, when I politely point out the Laws, which are there to protect us all, AND our dogs.

We have three rescue dogs, and we have taken the time to teach them good manners. It really isn't that hard. Rescues are the best...they know they have been given a new lease of life, and are eternally grateful to their rescuers.
