Max, I'm sorry nobody has answered your query - come on, folks, we should all be encouraging our younger members.

I'm not a fisherman, so can't give any advice myself, but I did pick up a limited amount of information a while ago, as follows:

Fishing from the beach at Guardamar is limited to evenings during the summer months. Bass can be caught at very close range, especially if the surf is up.
The mouth of the Segura at Guardamar Marina is an excellent spot for Mullet, Dorado and striped Bream. Ledgering is the best tactic for all of the above locations unless you are targeting the mullet.

The rocky outcrops of La Mata have proved to be good spots for a large variety the rock dwelling fish of the Med. The main species found here are Wrasse with Coreano proving to be the best bait. Use either float fishing tactics or be prepared to lose some tackle.

Fishing from the pier at Torrevieja can be very productive. There are a good number of different varieties of fish to be had from here. The deep water near the end of the pier means that almost any variety of fish may be present. Some large fish are caught in the evening. All methods of fishing can be employed along the pier. I have had great success with float fished live prawns during the day.

Be careful when fishing Guardamar. It is teaming with Weaver fish. They can give a very nasty sting.

I don't know how valid this is. I've also got some info re fishing in the Santa Pola area if you can get up to that area.

When we go to the beach, we go just north of the Segura estuary at Guardamar. Never see many fish off that beach because it's pure sand - no rocks. However, there are usually quite large fish visible in the estuary, and always people fishing off the pier.

You're probably not doing a lot wrong. I've been fishing the coast from Santa Pola down to just past where you are for about 7 years now on & off & biggest I've caught was about 12 inches, most are around 6-10 inches. You just have to keep trying and one day the monster will come! As always though it's important to use the right bait & fish at the right times. Have a look on this website as I found it useful for a bit of background info on what fish are out there, bait etc. http://www.garysmithfishing.com/.

You also need to watch where you're fishing - in most parts of Spain you need a licence for sea fishing; the last time I checked you didn't need one for Alicante Province - if anyone knows if this has changed please shout up.
