Planes are like big Petri-dishes in the sky: If someone had to invent a unit for rapidly spreading a virus amongst humans, they'd end up with something akin to a plane. If you have to get on one, take a lot of precautions. If you don't have to get on one, don't.
At the present rate, it's looking like Spain is the next Italy....

You don't travel for two weeks, and In terms of the virus, that's a very VERY long time.
I'm due to go to Turkey in mid-April. We've already written that trip off. We would then be over to Spain most months from around May onwards, but we've pulled the plug on those trips too.
I'm not pandering to the scaremongers or over-reacting, I'm just adopting a sensible approach: The spread of this virus won't be stopped by government actions and guidelines but by people using common sense. A commodity in very short supply nowadays.
EDIT: That last comment comes across as aimed at people/someone here, it's not. It's just a general observation.
Air systems in planes will take out any bacteria, you will only suffer if you sit close to someone with it. Plane safer than train or bus.

I was airhostess 5 years and did 4 flights a day I never ever caught one thing. Not a cold or flu nothing. As in any transport at momen use alcohol wipes and cleanot you seat etc and wear platinum gloves if worried. I can assure you with our training we had to see scientists and hospital consultants re flying and the body and they are not any worse than any other transport. They are actually better and ad I never caught anything with having lupus and worked all these flights I believe it

The Spanish Government has been, like other countries,
slow in their response to the spread of the virus.More travel restrictions will be seen over next weeks/ months.

From news yesterday...
“Health Minister, Mr Sánchez is scheduled to meet business and union leaders on Thursday to discuss an emergency economic package to soften the economic blow of the epidemic, which could hit Spain’s tourism sector hard.
The health ministry is also calling for those in the most affected areas to work from home where possible
and for people throughout Spain to avoid all but essential travel, both inside and outside the country”
I'm looking forward to seeing how staff who work in restaurants, hotels etc actually work from home.

I just flew in on Saturday. It’s not really any worse here on the costas than back home in Sydney.
I’m still alive ! My husband has had a cold back home since Thursday and has opted to work from home until his cold has cleared .
Really , just take what SHOULD be daily , normal precautions ... wash hands well and use a tissue and cover your mouth !
Qatar , when I flew in, seemed to be keeping the bathrooms disinfected BUT what surprised me was, None of them wore disposable gloves ! I chatted with one of the crew. She told me she’s concerned at how much she could spread it herself talking to 300 pax and giving them food n drinks.
I have a friend who worked with the airlines for 40 years ... she said “ clean Everything the crew give you and clean your hands often!”
You can minimise risk but if you’re meant to get it you will !
Don’t cancel. Monitor a while till you get closer to leaving

I am informed that the air on a plane is filtrate every few minutes and is cleaner than many other air conditioned environments .
We go to our house in Spain and never eat junk food or over drink alcohol. We eat out at home and when away in the best restaurants or at home. I refuse to go out for food for the sake of it. I love going out to an upmarket restaurant or don’t go at all.
You are young and sadly, we aren’t . When you get to our stage of life, you become fussy. I stick with my diagnosis of unclean aeroplanes. How could they possibly be cleaned properly? Passengers leave and within minutes passengers get back on. Not a chance of a wipe down other than the toilets hopefully,

IT TOOK THE YANKS TO SAVE US!
Please go onto BBCiplayer and watch the chief medical officer speaking to the select committee of the government. Very reassuring indeed.

I agree... the crew take your trash by hand often. No gloves. So crew pick up your tissue that you just sneezed into or wiped your mouth on. The guy behind you asks for a drink.. crew opens a can or bottle , pours and hands him his glass. He grabs glass, then puts his hand to his face. Easy transfer of germs !
There were a lot of passengers including myself , entering/ exiting the bathrooms like surgeons, elbows only! Hands up!
