Thank you Alex. Excellent ideas, I wouldn't have thought of them, and I look forward to the changes.

I don't give praise where it isn't due, but you've definitely made this the best forum I've ever been on, so congratulations. And thanks to mother Jan!

I've now made the following changes:

  • Added links to Jim's Guides at the top sub-menu and in the list of menu items when you click on the menu button in the top left of the screen. This is just the start - I will be thinking of further ways to make Jim's Guides more prominent throughout the site.
  • Removed the "Reply" button that was on every post and now made it into a button making it clearer that you can quote a post
  • Made the quotes shorter so that it doesn't take so long to scroll

Let me know what you think!

Much better, Alex, and thank you.

I've just had to plough through four pages of posts to find what someone was referring to, as they posted a question before you did the change and didn't use the quote button.

Thanks Alex, I can see this clearing up a lot of threads that can become quite confusing.
For Jim's Guides it will be much easier to refer people to them.

Hi Alex,

Thanks for responding so quickly.  If anyone wants to add to a thread without quoting a specific post, then we can just add our reply in the posting box as usual, like I'm doing now (I think!) 😄

Best wishes,

Kim

Who do you agree with Hugh?

Perhaps use   “reply quoting this”

I've just made some further changes to the site to speed things up, particlarly around unread posts. If you notice the website is quicker or even slower please let me know.

I know the unread posts page might still be slow - still trying to fix that
