If you were using a hire car, if you “forget” to pay it you will likely end up with the car hire company passing it onto you, with additional admin costs, a few months down the line. It will be written into your hire agreement that you are liable for any fines etc and most companies will pursue it
Can't you give them your UK debit card details? They would bill it in Euros, and your bank would convert it. But I had one a long time ago in Benidorm, went to the police station and they said if it was my first one, I could forget it. I did, nothing happened.
