Hi Aitch, Perhaps as you are much younger than myself(I grew up during the war) we saw things differently during the 1970´s.And I was born & grew up in a big prosperous Naval Port on the south coast where people, myself included, were all Tory supporters. But we should all be able to see things that we feel are not right & not go blindly on.I served in the RAF for several years which,as we mix with a whole range of personalities, does open our eyes to so much more  than our own little"bubble".I have operated my own business for the best part of my adult life both in UK & here, have lived in both Scotland & England too.My preference for Scottish life is because I believe they are more open to change. At this moment you can see the ever growing separation there is in England between the North & South, always has been, but getting ever worse I think. The Spanish town that I live in is very multi-cultural,the British stick more often to Benidorm or up the coast in Moraira area ,so maybe I have grown into not thinking "English" anymore. Those, like myself, are so angry at being denied a vote just because we have lived here a set number of years. And this was a Tory decision, later told it would be debated, then told"sorry no time for this".And of course this meant that thousands of Brits.throughout Europe had absolutely no say in the Referendum.I´ll take my chances in Scotland. If you believe that they won´t survive as an independent country, you obviously do not appreciate the steely nature of the Scottish character.

Loved your measured and thoughtful reply. I hope you find  happiness in your new life in the Scottish Borders , it’s a beautiful part of the country with great airport opportunities is you ever need to catch up on some Spanish sunshine. Kind regards and good luck ❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿❤️

Hi Dogsbody,

thanks for the response. I respect your views on though different to mine. I worked and lived in Europe, mainly Switzerland, Greece, Belgium and Eire, for over 16 yearts in total, starting with 5 years in Greece from 1981. I am very familiar with Europe and it's people, I just have different views on how the UK should interface with the EU at a political level.

That aside I again wish you good luck with your move to the Border areas, I know the England side better than the Scottish side but it is a lovely place to live.

Rgds,

Aitch.

Pleased to hear your comments Fiona on Glasgow.I lived in Clarkston & my elder daughter was born there.I really loved the down to earth people who come from there. Many of our customers in our business here were from that area, including Iris Connelly,ex-wife of Billy, you can´t get more Glaswegian that that! My Scottish granddaughter lives in Invernesshire, bit too far north for me.Now I am thinking about Dumfries as it seems to fit very well my needs.A small town, quiet with all the shops I would need to toddle around. And it has bus links & a railway station. If I get a rental there for a bit I can explore other places too.I also have lived in Ayrshire near to Prestwick airport but I hear that now,Ayr is a bit of a rough place.Of course Edinburgh is lovely, lived in Colinton but a bit too pricey now for me.Anyone though ,more familiar than I am with Dumfries?Only ever passed through & I guess it is very wet but I have lived in Devon so it could be back to Wellies which was the favoured footwear there.
