Sheila I totally agree with you.I will not be buying a property on the English side because despite being English born,I am alarmed at the mad decision made by my fellow countrymen. My birth family are all typical Anglo Saxon from the Saxon Kingdom of Wessex where they have always lived. And,I can ...

...believe,all think that life will go on in their comfortable world just as before. It won´t for our children & grandchildren after Brexit. At the time of the original referendum in the 1970´s when we elected to join the EU,can anyone remember the state of the UK?At that time we lived in that lovely little place Rothley, near Leicester where that little girl´s family,Maddie now live.We donated food to the families who were without, our Chancellor of the Exchequer had to go for a loan because Britain was Broke. We have short memories obviously. My family came here in the mid 1980´s to run a business which was before Spain entered the EU.Poverty was even worse than what I had seen in UK.So they were keen to join a big group of European countries & since that time I can see what a tremendous advantage they have gained in doing so.Until retirement I had ,fortunately, run successful businesses both in UK & here. Therefore I hope I am still sensible enough to see the bigger picture.Don´t listen to those who go on about how people came & worked in Europe before & will do so again.Yes indeed as we did.But it was very hard even buying a licensed business as a cash buyer. Now there will be the fact that the British voted to leave the "Club".Do you really believe that employers in the EU will welcome our young job seekers with open arms,& don´t forget how poorly we are equipped with foreign language skills.
Hi Dogsbody,
I was born in early 50's and raised in the N-E of England. I can remember the 70's as the days of Labour governments crippling the economy, which is why Dennis Healey had to go cap in hand to the IMP. I remember working 3 days weeks under Ted Heath's government because of union action bringing the country to a halt. The Thatcher government was responsible for clearing up the mess and getting our financial policies back to the real world. I think your wearing EU rose tinted glasses if you think they were responsible.
I do not remember there being any significant poverty, either in the N-E or in Hertfordshire where I worked for most of the 70's. Must have been different in rural Leicestershire.
I'm sure that the UK will adapt to the new reality of working with the EU and we will prosper together.
Good luck with your move to Scotland. I would not put too much faith in getting back into the EU through that route though but you never know.
Aitch.
