Hi all,

Since before Christmas I have been trying to send money across from my English account to my Spanish Caixa bank account (something I have done many times before) the money however bounced back to me a month later. The reason I believe is because due to my passport expiring I need to update my new passport onto their system.
After speaking to them they told me to log in on the internet banking website and upload this info.
When trying to do so I have been met with error messages telling me that I have blocked myself out of the account and to try again in 24 hours.
I have called the help line numerous times and the people have always been pleasant and helpful however; they send me a verification code as a security check via text message, then they proceed to try and send a new password through to me and that message will never arrive. They then tell me that they can only send one of these though within a 24hour period. I have spoken to my phone provider to check that nothing is blocked and they has assured me there is no reason for this. the bank blame the phone people!
so basically I cannot gain access to my account online to update my passport info. has anyone got any advice, I'm pulling my hair out over here!!!!!!

Hi Hannah and welcome to the forum,

Just a thought: is the bank trying to send the codes to your UK mobile?  We've previously experienced issues with Spanish companies not able to send to UK mobiles, or using +34 instead of +44, so the SMS goes undelivered.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hope you got it sorted. Experienced a similar problem with my Spanish bank, spent loads of time on the phone and did write- got a reply which only addressed part of the problem. Was thinking of changing banks, but from your text I will just stay put, we get a very poor service with high fees. The regular monthly sum required for the fee free account is too high especially now that the schengen scheme applies. I will at some point soon have to re-engage with my Spanish  bank not looking forward to the experience!! Totally get your frustration!

Hi Andrea,

It sounds as though you're not resident in Spain, so have you looked at ditching your Spanish bank and opening an online account instead?  So long as it has an EU IBAN (International Bank Account Number), you can set up direct debits for your Spanish utilities and also make one-off payments for other Spanish bills.  Many forum members have already switched to, for example, Wise, in order to rid themselves of expensive Spanish bank fees:

N26 is another option:

Kind regards,

Kim
