Sorry if this has been done to death but we are coming over in April and wanted a reputable car hire company when arriving at Alicante. Can anyone recommend a company that will not rob us blind and con us? A few horror stories regarding this I have been reading on here on a few posts and don’t want it happening to us!

CENTAURO. Spanish company, we used them for years. Efficient website and reception desk. However, as with all car hire, would strongly advise you to purchase excess insurance in U.K. insurance4carhire is the one we used to use.

I would reiterate what your other poster said, I have used Centauro several times and have found them honest and reliable.

However, its also good advice to get your own excess insurance from a UK source. If you don't know how, check it out on Martin Lewis Money Saving Expert website. It should cost you less than twenty quid for a week.

Or around 49 for a year, useful if you make several visits!

Thanks for all your replies. Regarding EDI car rental,if they are not at the airport I take it they pick you up at the airport and then drop you back at the airport when you return the vehicle?

We used edi Rent a car 2 weeks ago, fantastic service and YES they do meet you at Alicante airport, you just send them your arrival time and update them if there are any delays to your arrival time- I strongly recommend- check out their website

How did you go about the insurance with EDI? Did you have their basic insurance or the whole package? Or did you have their basic insurance and independent excess insurance from elsewhere?

No “extra hidden charges” for fuel or a tiny scratch at the end of the hire then?

Do they also onsist on a credit card deposit etc as I think that is the con with most of the others?
