Just refuse all extras firmly and politely. 

Get deposit back within 24 hours. 

Everybody has their views and experiences though. 

I come every 2 months, i get my flights and car through Skyscanner. Its a compare the market thing. I got back to uk yesterday, handing back an opel mokka- top model- for 8 days for 7€ total, thats total, not per day. I also buy a years excess cover for about 40 bucks . Were coming again at easter, ive got a small car for 11 days gor about14 euros i think. 

I've done the same Wag, used Skyscanner for flights and Hotwire for cars.

We have used Centauro quite a bit over the last 12 months. If you buy their full /full covers everything, no hidden extras 👍

I always use Rentalcars.com when I need a rental car. You can filter on whatever your preferences are. Fore example deposit, risk, office at airport or nearby, etc. If you for example arrive at Alicante airport all rental companies are in the selection, with consumer rates. They have a good app too.

Hi we have used lara cars they meet you at airport and the car is parked at the airport ready to go.  I pay in cash on collection no credit or debit card used.  Very reliable and reasonably priced.  No hidden extras. We have used them at least 5 times now.

We also use Wheels in Spain.

Excellent service. No deposit or pre authorised extortionate deposit on your credit card. No hidden cleaning or refueling costs.  

As the previous post said, they meet you at the airport and hand over the car in the drop off bay, so no hour wait at a desk.  They have a standard insurance excess of 150 euro I think, but only payable if there is any damage when the car is returned.

The cars are not new, but adequate for a holiday without the hassle and unpredictable costs of the on-airport  companies.
