We use a 2 litre filtered water jug just for drinking water. The filters are designed to last a month and quite cheap.
The Spanish residents here drink water from the tap, you never see Spanish nationals carrying those big containers of water!!
The water in Spain complies with all EU directives for health and safety.

Hello
I, too drink tap water, after one very hot summer of lugging huge bottles of water home I decided to try it & 17 years later I have never had any ill effects.
Cheers

From our experience well worth getting a reverse osmosis water purifier ... after years buying bottled from mercadona changed my life

Did you not trust the water or had it made you ill?

Hi,
We've lived here 17 years and always drunk the tap water, only buy bottled if it's con gas.
The water is perfectly alright and safe to drink but some people just prefer the bottled water.
Try both chilled and see what you think. :)

The tap water in Spain is safe to drink. However, if you enjoy a cup of tea without the scum and prefer a non furred kettle, the reverse osmosis system is a good investment.
It produces purer water than bottled water and saves lugging bottles back from the supermarket.
I would test your water first using a TDS meter (about €7 from amazon.es), the reverse osmosis should reduce contaminants to below 6 ppm. We use the TDS meter to indicate when the filters need changing.
If you do decide to invest in a reverse osmosis system do get one with a booster pump to raise your water pressure to around 7 bar. With good water pressure the system will use 2 litres of water to produce 1 litre of pure water, low pressure will waste more water. The near pure waste water can be saved for the garden, rather than plumbing it into the sink waste.

I just didnt like the taste so I did a blind tasting test between a sample of water from mercadona
and a sample of water provided by a friend who had a reverse osmosis water purifier
my wife tasted both and could not tell the difference between the two samples
to make a decent cup of tea you need good water and the reverse osmosis water purifier
provides good tasting water !

we have upgraded our water filter system , but our old one was good , the filters need changing every 3 or four months , the cost about 15 euros from leroy merlins and are easy to change, We upgraded to a system that you only need to change the filter once a year.
our old system is up for sale if any one wants to collect it, im even throwing the tap in as i didnt need it(new came with new system ) 25 euros.
