Hi, we are renting an apartment in Algorfa and our landlord has asked us to take our a multi contents insurance policy. The estate agents said this is quite common.

They originally told us it would cost us around €200 but today they have come back with a quote of €270 which the agent has arranged with a company. The owner has estimated the contents at around €30000

I assume we can take out our own multi contents insurance. Does anyone know of a reasonable company that we can use?

TIA

Hi,

Yes the agent has probably put their fee on top as our full house build and contents insurance is 242€ per year so that sounds very high.

We do our insurance through Easycover who will search for the best deal for you if you're not comfortable going direct to the insurer. We have found that we somehow still manage to get a cheaper quote, we read all the small print as so should you, from Easycover than direct from the insurer.

To add to this why should you pay for your landlord's insurance if the contents are his?

In any case carefully read and understand all the small print.

For your own contents you will often find that watches and jewellery and cash are not included. It also helps if you keep receipts in the unfortunate  case you lose anything.

Thanks for your help, yes we are trying other insurance companies. We will check the small print carefully.
