Hello. I have some quite nice space heaters that I use in my London flat - and am wondering if it's safe to use these in Spain, in the winter months, with an adaptor...

It all depends on their power rating, and what your contracted power supply is in Spain.

What wattage are they, and how many are there?

I have two large heaters and one small one. I believe one the large ones are 1000w and the other is 2500.

I used to have Iberdrola for power (but had too many problems transferring over my name to the contract after the house purchase), so now contracted with EDF.

If you've got two at 1 kW and one at 2.5 kW, then that's 4.5 kW. No problem in the UK where the power supply is much higher.

Whether you could run them here, plus everything else, without the power constantly tripping out, all depends on what your contracted power supply is. For example, we're on 5.75 kW - have the space heaters on, turn on the kettle or a ring on the hob, and pop!

Ah. This explains what happened when I rented a flat over Xmas in Vejer. It was really cold and had the (small) space heater on the whole time, but couldn't put the kettle on or it would trip the switch.

I will do a bit of research w/ the power company to find out options.

Thanks,

Deborah

Deborah, there's been a lot of discussion about this subject - spend a bit of time looking at the topics in the Utilities section and you'll understand what's involved.
